Huge Update On Jayden!

So we’ve been kind of slacking on the Jayden updates. We know. We’re sorry. We’ve been taking tons of pictures, but have taken our sweet old time getting them uploaded. And what’s an update on our Little Man without pictures? Well we’ve finally gotten them some uploaded and would like to share them, along with everything he’s been up to, with all of you!

Stranded.

To start things off, we spent last week visiting our parents in Chicago and ended up getting “stranded”. Any of you who live in the Chicagoland area know what a disaster last week/weekend was. We had two straight days of nothing but rain. Then we were hit with the remnants of Hurricane Ike which added another whole day of rain. Major expressways were closed down for days because of flooding, including two in which we use to get back home. This resulted in many roads throughout the area becoming seriously congested fast. So we decided we’d stay in Chicago until they reopened the expressways. After three days had passed, the expressways were still closed, so we decided to just go ahead and bear it out on the roadways. It took us almost three times as long to get back home. On top of that, we found out that they had just reopened the expressways right when we walked in the door!

Here are some pictures we managed to get of the floods in our area…

Remember this was in CHICAGO, over 1,000 miles away from where Hurricane Ike in the Gulf. So just imagine what it was like down there. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those that were affected by Ike. Hurricanes suck.

Guess who’s getting bigger?

Jayden had a doctor’s appointment last Thursday and he checked out wonderful! He currently weighs in at 15lbs. 6.5oz. and is 25in. tall! Our Little Man is getting BIG thanks to mama’s milk! Speaking of which, we’ve started to let him cheat on his diet, but we’ll get on more of this later!

His cradle crunchies (Mommy’s term for cradle cap. Jayden’s auntie calls it cradle crap!) are much better but the doctor said to treat the rest with mineral oil, rub with a brush, then wash it out. We’re going to substitute mineral oil with shea butter oil. Since we ran out of natural baby butter, Jay had an eczema flare up. It would happen when he had an appointment. Anything to make us look like horrible parents. The doctor prescribed 1% hydrocortisone. She recommended 2.5% but since we’re in between doctors, she wants our next doctor to prescribe the higher dose so that he/she can monitor it. Per Mommy’s orders, we’re going to stick with natural baby butter. We told her how well it worked, but we just ran out. She also prescribed an antibiotic cream for his rosy cheeks and recommended he have an allergy test done. We try to use the mildest of products, but the culprit of Jayden’s flareups could be something we’re overlooking, or it could be something Mommy’s eating. We can’t wait until we get the test done so we can get to the bottom of the problem. His skin’s looking better, so we haven’t used any of the creams. Jaymi whipped us up a batch of Bee Good To Your Baby Butter and we are loving it. Oh and we can’t forget about the Shea Radiance Baby Butter that we were using previously. Both products work wonders on his baby rolls!

Still wet, gummy smiles!

He’s still a drool machine but no teeth yet! He puts everything and everyone in his mouth! Humphreys teething pellets, pure vanilla extract, Razbaby teethers, wubbanubs, and washcloths have been managing to keep him happy!

Backyard Boogie!

Now that Fall has begun, we’re trying to enjoy the warm weather as much as we can before it starts to cool down. We spent some time out in Daddy’s mother’s backyard last week and snapped many pictures of Jayden. We originally took some in the sun and hated how they turned out. Jayden’s face was all orange and there were shadows everywhere. So we relocated to a shady spot and they turned out wonderful!

More from this set can be found here.

As you can see, he absolutely loves being on his tummy! He still hasn’t started crawling yet, but he rolls over like nobody’s business! We had him laid out on his stomach on his activity gym yesterday and he wouldn’t stay put for five seconds before rolling over onto his back and giggling!

“Hmm so these things are good for something besides kicking Daddy!”

He’s also not too fond of being propped up. He loves to stand and giggles like crazy every time we do stand him up!

So we are currently planning to buy an ExerSaucer, or something of the like, to satisfy his need to stand up!

We let him cheat on his diet!

On the 11th our Little Man had his very first solids, carrots, and he absolutely loved them! Check him out grubbin’ down:

We also have a video taken that day of him eating the carrots and we’ll try to get it uploaded soon! Since then he’s also had bananas and rice cereal. He wasn’t too fond of the cereal, as we figured when he gave us the “This crap is nasty!” look when we tried to feed it to him! Other than that, he seems to be enjoying solids!

Simply enjoying life!

Daddy is loving life as a father, Mommy is loving life as a mother, and as you can see, Jayden is just loving life period! Being a family is beautiful, and we’re enjoying every aspect of it!

Lions And Tigers And Bears Oh My! The Ringling Bros. Circus Is Coming To Town!

ringlingbrosbarnumbailey-300x93 Lions And Tigers And Bears Oh My! The Ringling Bros. Circus Is Coming To Town! - Mommy Daddy Blog A Baby Blog

Exactly what you will be saying while sitting in the audience of a Ringling Bros. show! I’m not sure if I ever had a chance to visit the circus as a child but I have sat in the audience of The Bozo Show. I have a VHS of the episode, I’m shown in the audience going into a commercial. But back to the purpose of this post! Ringling Bros. will be in the Chicago area November 6th-30th and we are going to try to make it to one of the shows! I’m so excited because this will be Jayden’s first circus and such a great photo opportunity! Babies under the age of 12 months receive their very first ticket along with a personalized baby certificate under the Baby’s First Circus program. We will definitely be signing up for that! I actually found out about this trying to find out if he’d be too young to go to the circus with all of the noise and lights, I guess not! We’re also going to sign up for preferred customer offers so we won’t miss out on specials for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey and Disney On Ice. Disney On Ice, don’t even get me started!

Thanks to Mom Central we can save 20% on our tickets, you can too! Use discount code MCC for 20% off shows in the the following cities:

Indianapolis, IN - Sept. 4-7, 2008
Kansas City, MO - Sept. 10-14, 2008
Grand Rapids, MI - Sept. 18-21, 2008
Denver, CO - Oct. 2-13, 2008
Boston, MA – Oct. 8-13, 2008
Cleveland, OH - Oct. 24 - Nov. 2
Chicago, IL - Nov. 6 - 30, 2008
St. Louis, MO - Nov. 6-9, 2008
Auburn Hills, MI - Nov. 12 - 16, 2008
Highland Heights, KY - Feb 27 - Mar. 1, 2009
Cincinnati, OH - Mar. 4 - 8, 2008

I’m so glad that we moved from the boonies and closer to the Windy City. Now we can enjoy the amenities that the city has to offer by creating memories that will last a lifetime and traditions that can be carried on for years, even generations! It all starts when we go to The Greatest Show On Earth!

Milk That Lasts How Long? Horizon Organic Single Serve!

Horizon Organic Single Serve I’ve been wanting to try Horizon Organic milk for some time now. Thanks to Mom Central, I was able to try Horizon Organic Single Serve milk and I love it. Horizon Organic milk provides essential nutrients without the dangers of antibiotics, pesticides, or growth hormones. Fortified with Vitamins A and D, parents can feel good about making school lunches and after-school snacks. I received a sample of each flavor; regular, chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. It was like drinking liquid Neopolitan, absolutely delicious! Horizon Organic tastes so pure. Ever noticed the taste difference between tap and bottled water? The taste comparison of regular milk vs Horizon Organic milk is similar. One thing that I noticed is that the Horizon Organic strawberry and chocolate milks are white. After being amused that all flavors of milk are white, I had a duh moment. It’s organic milk, therefore it doesn’t contain any artificial food coloring! D-U-H!

I like to buy things in bulk, but milk is just one item that can’t be bought in bulk. I love the fact that when Jay gets older, I can buy Horizon Organic Single Serve in bulk without worrying about it going bad in a week. Horizon Organic Single Serve has a shelf life of about 2 months! The samples I received expire in November! Shelf life, doesn’t milk have to be refrigerated? Horizon Organic Single Serve can be stored away without having to be refrigerated! So I can just store them on top of our cupboards (we use that extra space up the since we don’t have a pantry) and pull them down as needed!

Quoting horizonorganic.com, here’s why the Horizon Organic milk has such a long shelf life:

Single serve milks are packaged in aseptic tetrapaks and unopened will keep at room temperature up to seven months or until the date code. The milk is pasteurized using UHT or ultra-high temperature process which is similar to UP or ultra-pasteurization, in which the milk is heated to >280° F for 2-3 seconds, but packaged in a sterile environment thus extending its shelf life. The package itself is durable, lightweight, convenient for transport, and uses low energy and few materials. It is recyclable at any local program that accepts aseptic packages.

For more facts about Horizon Organic, visit Horizon Organic Facts.

Hopefully by the time Jay starts drinking cow’s milk, the price of Horizon Organic will go down some. I look forward to being a regular consumer. Of course, every sale and discount helps. For coupons, visit the coupon sign up page :-).
