In my post Shopping Frugally For The Holidays Or All Year ‘Round, I mention never paying retail. Before making a purchase online, I look around for coupon codes and specials. When I go into a store, I hit the clearance racks first. On numerous occasions, I have found many articles of clothing for myself and Jayden under $4. Usually the clearance racks are full of overstocks or clothes that are going out of season. It doesn’t matter if we have to wait a while before we can wear the clothing. I just make sure that I get larger sizes for Jayden. As for me, I’m not growing any time soon…
Sears is one of my favorite stores to find insanely reduced clothing. They are now offering 75-80% OFF ORIGINAL PRICES ON FALL & WINTER APPAREL from now till April 18th. Jayden needed a few things that he could wear during this unpredictable spring weather we’re having. I was able to get him 3 Long Sleeve Shirts and a Lightweight Hooded Jacket for $27.97! Now, I’m getting where I don’t spend any more than $6 on his shirts, $12 on pants. I’m a cheapskate momma in the making. Check out the
Sears.com Clearance Sale, there’s something for the entire family! Before making a purchase, don’t forget to search sites like retailmenot.com for a coupon code!

There’s something about a bean bag chair that attracts kids to them. Maybe it’s the unique design. But once they plop down in one, they always refuse to get out.
Bean bag chairs go great in bonus rooms, kids rooms, or as party furniture. Once popular with adults, they are now used mostly as furniture for kids. As with any kid’s toys, you want to make sure that they’re safe.
Well, since a major government recall about 10 years ago, kids bean bag chairs have become much safer. Most aren’t even filled with styrofoam “beans” anymore… which is good, because those tiny “beans” were a huge safety hazard. They’ve been replaced by safer, softer shredded foam.
Bean bag chairs are also being manufactured with double-sewn stitching, making them more durable for your children (because we all know how rough kids can be with their toys). Even the covering has improved. Most manufacturers don’t even use vinyl or leather anymore. Instead, they use softer fabrics such as twill.
And with the internet, you have a great opportunity to do some comparison shopping from your living room. Discount bean bag chairs can be found with free shipping, long-lasting warranties, and even low price guarantees… giving you peace of mind so that you don’t have to compare prices yourself.
So if your kids are begging you for a bean bag chair, you have many options out there.

Fisher-Price Recalls Simplicity’s Rainforest™ Portable Play Yards Due to Fall and Entrapment Hazards
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Rainforest™ Portable Play Yards manufactured by Simplicity Inc. and SFCA Inc.
Units: About 200,000
Manufacturer: Simplicity Inc. and SFCA Inc., of Reading, Pa.
(Note: Simplicity Inc. and SFCA Inc. have not responded to CPSC’s request to recall these products nor have they been responsive to consumer complaints recently received.)
Hazard: One or more rails can collapse unexpectedly, posing a fall or entrapment hazard to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: Due to Simplicity Inc. and SFCA Inc. being unresponsive to consumers via their Hotline and Web site, a significant number of complaints were recently reported. There have been at least 1,350 reports of one or more rails collapsing. There were numerous reports of children receiving bumps and bruises when the side rail collapsed. There were five reports of injuries which included a broken nose, a broken wrist, a mild concussion, a cut to the hand which required stitches, and a chipped tooth.
Description: The recalled play yards are portable and were sold with a bassinet, changing table, and mobile features. The products have a Rainforest™ patterned fabric, Rainforest themed artwork and bear the “Fisher-Price” logo. The Simplicity Inc. model numbers are 5310 RNF, 5310RNFC, and 5310RNFW. The model number is located on a sticker on one of the legs underneath the play yard.
Sold at: Retailers and specialty children’s stores nationwide from January 2007 through January 2009 for about $100.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the play yards immediately. Although it did not manufacture or sell the play yards, Fisher-Price has voluntarily agreed to assist consumers who own the products. Consumers who own one of the recalled play yards with the Fisher-Price logo should contact Fisher-Price to obtain assistance to replace their play yards.
Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Fisher-Price at (800) 432-5437 anytime or visit the Web site at http://www.service.mattel.com

The irony: After finding out about the recall, I grabbed one side of the play yard and put a little pressure on it…it collapsed and broke. I was trying to show Greg that it seemed sturdy. Um yea. Recall much needed.
We are shipping the faulty rails THE FABRIC (was confused by illustration) off to Fisher-Price in exchange for a $100 check. As for the remains, they are trash. To keep dumpster divers (nothing wrong with that, btw) from using a recalled product, I wrote all over it.
Farewell beloved play yard, it’s been fun.

A few weeks ago, Greg and I were watching Jamie Foxx’s Just Like Me music video and I noticed the kids eating hot dogs were sitting in the same high chair that we have. Cool huh?
We have a “prettier” high chair, but it is so big and clunky, it’s still sitting in the box. If space is limited, the Cosco Juvenile Flat Fold is a great choice. It’s very light weight and folds up for easy storing.
This was a random tidbit that I felt like sharing and I have filed it in the “Get A Life” category. There may be more of these posts to come. Consider yourself warned.
