I love having pretty, flawless, manicured nails. I love the personality a sassy color or fun pattern can bring to my fingertips. As a mom, I really don’t have the time or patience to sit, paint my nails, and let them dry (and forget about any pattern or design- an artist I am not).

I honestly never realized how important adult skin care was until I broke out in a mad case of adult acne about a year ago.

Prior to that, even in my teens, I’d always had pretty much flawless skin.  Like sure, I’d get a pimple from time to time, but it would do it’s thing and disappear without a trace.

Plus, I am blessed with good skin genes on both my mom’s side and my dad’s side so I’ve never really worried about wrinkle creams or anti-aging miracle cures, or any of that madness.

But then, I was 29 Again and my body decided it was going to hate me.

My facial acne was so, so bad; evil, painful pimples that would leave scars and discolorations and other hideousness in their wake.

I’d never worn a stitch of make-up prior to this point, but I immediately figured out the difference between pressed powder and foundation.

After a multitude of trips to the dermatologist, and a whole mess of topical skin cleansers, creams, and magical potions, I finally whipped my acne back a bit.

But, once it was under control I realized, I had another problem: my skin was battered, bruised, and dried out like the Mojave Desert from all of the treatments I had used.

I have combination skin. In the morning after washing, it’s dry and in need of moisture, but by the end of the day, it’s an oily mess. On days that I wear foundation or a tinted moisturizer, I have to blot and touch up oily spots and creases several times. It’s so frustrating, but it’s the skin I was given. I’m *this* close to tweaking my diet to see if things change.

Anywho. I was recently introduced to a makeup finish spray called Skindinavia No More Shine and it has really helped my makeup last a little longer. After washing my face, I apply my moisturizer and then I mist over my face with Skindinavia. After that dries, I apply my makeup and mist with Skindinavia to set. Since my skin gets oily as the day goes on, I still have to touch up, but not as much and I don’t have a problem with those awful creases.

Skindinavia mists on light like a daily toner. It doesn’t burn and I can’t even tell it’s on my face. Best of all it’s hypoallergenic and paraben free, which my sensitive skin appreciates.

I wrote a post months ago on my personal blog about what I use to keep my skin clear.

For almost a year now I have been very happy with my skin. While there are times I do break out (esp. during monthly cycles) – its much less of a battle now, thanks to the products I have found.

These are items I use on a daily or weekly basis.

1) A daytime facial cleanser
- I use Pure Anada’s Scentless cleanser
- & recently started using Kelly Teagarden Organic Facial cleanser 
Both are great natural and chemical free cleaners.

- Those facial cleansers I use ONLY in the morning.

2) A night time facial cleanser
- I use Organic Jojoba Oil
- I buy mine from Trader joes, but you can purchase it online. I think Trader Joes sells it for $6.99 a bottle.
- I use this method using the oil to cleanse with at night. This method removes ALL my make up btw.

3) A good facial moisturizer 
- I use 3 kinds right now. Yes 3 ;-)
- At night I use my friend Nichole’s Organic Lotion Bar.
(Its slightly greasy but honestly it works amazingly well! I apply it right after doing the oil cleansing treatment. This way my hands are warm from the wash cloth I used to steam my face… having warm hands helps the lotion bar rub in much smoother and softer)

Before having her bar, I used what is listed below, for both night and morning.
- In the morning I use
~ Rainwater Botanicals Oils with their facial cream – I mix it together.
So one squirt from their facial cream (lotion) – and 4 drops of the oil into my palm. I mix it together with my fingers, then apply it all over my face. IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY!!!
- I also recently started using an anti-aging cream from Loving Naturals at night. Really helps to tighten up those larger pores and fine lines (even at 28 I am starting to see signs of those forming)

4) For breakouts I use
- Goat Milk Stuff’s Tea Tree Oil Lotion Bar
(Just rub it on like lotion onto breakouts)
- More severe breakouts (although this has not happened in a while)
I use A Hydroccortizone Stick (1%) – The one I have is Dr. Bobby’s, which is no longer in business… but you can find some on amazon that are similar. Don’t use this for long periods of time.

5) To exfoliate 
- I mix Pure Sweet Almond Oil w/ Honey Granules (Its a sucanat w/ honey mixture – great for baking too btw)
- I only do this once a week, if that… and always rub it on in the morning, softly in a circular motion, IN THE shower, then let the warm water steam for a while after it washes off.
- Also if you dont have honey granules, you can use fresh coffee grounds! Both work well. However when you do this be very light with your circular scrubbing… since its not super fine it can damage your face if you are not careful.

6) For Makeup
- I use Pure Anada’s Mineral Makeup & Shadows 100% – Its the best make up I have ever used. I’ve been using her make up for almost 4 years now I believe. Maybe 3? I forget. Years any how. I would recommend it highly to anyone… and while the cost up front may be a bit much, it honestly will last you way longer than any store make up!! Its well worth the cost & the owner is amazing.

- Make up for me is one of the most important aspects of keeping a clear complexion. Not because it covers, but because its on your face ALL DAY.

Hope this is helpful for some. One thing I love about the products I use, is where they come from. Besides the Hydroccortizone stick, & jojoba/almond oils all my products come from smaller businesses. Run by great women! They are natural, safe and good for you too :)

All this being said. My skin is not perfect.
But taking care of it well sure does help.

The name alone deserves its own paragraph!  Just a little scoop and scrub leaves my feet and legs so smooth and moisturized, and I definitely don’t even need lotion after using it in the shower.  After chasing two toddlers all day, there’s nothing like a mini spa experience for this tired momma’s feet.  And the sweet orange scent?  Delicious and refreshing.
