Jayden’s 2 Month Dr. Visit

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to Mommy Daddy Blog. We wouldn't want you to miss out on our updates or giveaways ;-)! Thanks for visiting!

Today was Jayden’s 2 month visit with the pediatrician. He received some vaccines and will continue them, but with few being administered at a time. Next time we see a pediatrician, we’ll be living in a new area, so we’ll have to find one that will work with us. I’m dreading this. I can’t say that I’m not uneasy about vaccinating, but I would be if we chose not to. I really hope something is done about today’s vaccines soon to make them more natural. It’s too much on the parents who have to make such tough decisions and then on the children who are just totally helpless.

Jayden did so well today. I expected him to scream like I’ve never heard him scream before. There are times where he doesn’t want his diaper changed and he cries. That was the same cry he let out when getting his shots. He was very easy to console. After Daddy gave him a few hugs, I nursed him, and almost instantly the crying stopped. When we got home, I gave him a small dose of baby Tylenol just in case of fever, nursed him some more, and let him play in his bouncer. He’s napping now and I’ve been watching him closely like a hawk.

How could I forget to mention Jayden’s growth? He weighs 12lbs 2oz. I know I said he was 12lbs 6oz, but I read our scale at home wrong (don’t ask). He’s about 23 inches long. He’s in the 50th percentile for length and head circumference (we keep forgetting to get the measurement, they quickly write it down without mentioning it). As for his weight, he’s in the 75th percentile, making him a Happy Panda!

The pediatrician said to keep applying the Eucerin on Jayden’s eczema, but I’m going to try some shea butter instead.

Below is a montage from the visit at the doctor’s office and then after Jayden had bouncer time. The last video in this montage should have been longer. I don’t know what happened. Luckily Daddy was recording using his camera at the same time I was using mine. His is much more exciting, but it will probably take HOURS to upload!

Below is the video that I recorded while typing the previous post. He was having a ball! He loves that bouncer to bits!

Today At The Doctor

Today Jayden had another well visit and he is doing really good. He got a little fussy in the lobby so I had to take him to an exam room to nurse him. Shortly after, the pediatrician was ready for us. Usually he sleeps during his visits, but today he was wide awake and stealing hearts. He was just cooing away for the nurse. I got a video of him doing it a few days ago. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the video off our camera and loaded onto my mac, but I will try because it’s time we post a video. So anyway, the pediatrician is still excited that I’m successfully breastfeeding and continues to encourage me. She and the nurse almost drooled over Jayden, which brings me to this question.

Do you think that it’s in the pediatrician and staff’s job to compliment babies or do they truly mean it? Or is it just something about all babies that make people go nuts over them? Does it come natural?

Here are Jayden’s stats for today.
Weight: 9 lbs 11.5 oz. He’s a little whopper! May 12th he weighed 7 lbs 15.5 oz.
Height: 21 3/4 in. May 12th he measured 20 3/4 in.
Putting him in the 50th percentile.
They measured his head too but we don’t remember the measurement!

I’m going to have to work out to strengthen my back because at the rate that he’s growing, I won’t be able to wear him. Babywearing is something that I really looked forward to doing, so I will be pulling out the Ab Lounge! I can’t let Daddy hog the privileges of carrying Jayden!

I took some pictures with a point and shoot camera while waiting on the pediatrician to come in the room. I wish I had a compact camera that worked much like an SLR. Carrying around the Canon Rebel is such a hassle, so I keep a Kodak Easyshare in my purse.

In a month Jayden will be due to get his shots. All he’s had was Vitamin K so far. You know I’m in all sorts of panic because of the whole uproar with certain vaccines, MMR in particular. What kind of bothers me is that I haven’t been able to find any information regarding African American babies and the affect vaccines have on them. Does this mean that severe reactions to vaccines haven’t been much of a problem in African American babies? Who knows. I certainly won’t set myself up to think that. At any rate, I ordered The Vaccine Book to help us decide which shots we want to allow, whether they’re on time or postponed. Hopefully I’ll find some answers. There’s always something to keep a mother worried…

Update On Jayden, It’s About Time!

Now that things have calmed down a little, it’s time for an update on Jayden who will be one month old on May 26th! I can’t believe our little man is almost a whole month old! Time surely does fly!

On May 2nd, Jayden made tears.

On May 6th, Jayden had his 1 week check up. Generally newborns lose some of their birth weight after being born. He weighed 7lbs 0.7oz fresh out the womb and 6lbs and some ounces (I will have to check his chart next visit for exact ounces.) on April 28th when discharged from the hospital. So when he was weighed at his 1 week checkup, he had gained it all back and then some! He weighed 7lbs 3.5oz. His length remained the same, 20in.

On May 12th he had his 2 week checkup and weighed 7lbs 15.5oz with a length of 20 3/4in.! His pediatrician let me know that I’m doing a great job breastfeeding and to keep it up. Breastfeeding is so rewarding to me, to think that a few years ago, I found it disgusting. I thought that it would feel strange having a baby sucking on my boobs, anyone for that matter. I’m very modest about the girls, they are tender, lol. Since I’ve started breastfeeding, I now see that it isn’t that bad and I can hardly even feel him nursing. I guess your nipples lose their sensitivity after a few feedings. There’s nothing like watching your baby nurse, knowing that he/she is enjoying a nutritious meal that your body has made naturally. Watching Jayden nurse, makes me want breast milk the way his eyes daze as he takes big gulps at a time.

Speaking of breastfeeding, I have a fast let-down on my right boob. At times the milk comes squirting out like a water gun. Of course it’s not fun for Jayden who gets frustrated when this happens. He can’t keep up and sometimes he ends up taking a breast milk shower. We always end up pausing until the shower slows down. I just started something like the football hold, but I hold his head up higher so that he has less of a chance of choking. My left boob is fine, however it needs to catch up with the right or the right needs to shrink. I’m in a constant battle with the girls trying to make sure they are both the same size. I try nursing more on the left because the more you nurse, the more milk is produced. I guess my left boob is just slower at producing. It’ll get it together.

I make milk. What's your superpower?

I love my I make milk. What’s your superpower? raglan shirt from Attached At The Hip. I was lucky enough to win one during the 5 Minutes For Mom Ultimate Blog Party. These shirts are currently a best seller! You’ll pick one up if you want to be part of the cool lactating moms club!

The SuperMomz Blog is having a giveaway for a Comfy K Nursing Tank. I’m hoping to win since summer is near and I don’t have much any nursing wear. TEN winners will be chosen May 27th!

If this isn’t the sweetest thing ever, I don’t know what is: Wet nurse feeds China quake babies.

On May 18th, Jayden had his first bath. We were still in Chicago so we didn’t get to use his little tub. He did really good, although he didn’t like it! I still can’t believe all that baby came out of me and I’m walking around now like nothing happened, lol. I’m 2lbs away from being back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I was hoping to keep at least 10lbs. Aw well, maybe next time.

Jayden’s baby acne’s gotten muuuch better, but here’s a taste of what it looked like May 16th:

jayden's baby acne

I was hesitant to show Jayden’s baby acne at first, but I changed my mind. I want other new parents to be able to see that yes it looks horrible, but it’s normal, and it will clear up in a reasonable amount of time. There’s nothing to freak out about although I almost blew an internal gasket. I just didn’t want people thinking we didn’t take the time to wash our laundry and things in hypoallergenic detergent or that we’re rubbing icky stuff on his face or something.

Of course I couldn’t showcase my poor baby’s face looking all pimpled up on printed photos, so with the power of Photoshop, I was able to create the after to send to family. If anyone needs some photo editing done, I’m taking requests!

Speaking of photos, we haven’t forgotten about the ones that we took in Chicago. I just have to “tag” them. I can’t bring myself to uploading our pictures without writing our website address on them. If a weirdo decides to do something with them, at least people know who they stole them from.

I now look forward to seeing what the next month of Jayden’s life brings! In the future I hope to be a little more on top of things with updates. Maybe I can be like Tanyetta, who blogs like 4 times a day, lol.

37th Week Update: I’m 1 CM Dilated!

Today marks 37 weeks and as Daddy says, “It’s crunch time!”. On Tuesday I had my cervix checked and was told I was 1 CM dilated! The week before I wasn’t and I know a trip to the mall has something to do with the progress. During that trip, my back and pelvic area ached so bad that I could hardly even move my legs to walk anymore. My midwife said that I’m doing good and Jayden will probably come early. I’m thinking it’s possible since my due date’s prediction had to be based on ultrasound and not my last period. During conception, I was coming off of Depo Provera, so it had my cycles all out of wack. I’m hoping Jayden comes early though because the suspense is killing me and I’m not liking the cons to being pregnant. I don’t want to play pregnant anymore, lol.

Tomorrow I’ll get started on laundry and sanitizing. I had planned on organizing his little clothes days ago, but realized we needed some mild detergent to wash them in and mesh lingerie bags to keep from losing socks, mits, and caps. Today we did some shopping for those things and others that we’ll need for Jayden’s arrival. Of course we’ll be back in the stores after his arrival because we’re going to realize that we forgot something.

I’m trying to take it easy before my mother gets here on the 25th. She’s getting antsy. Once she arrives, I’m going to TRY to walk my butt off. It’s kinda hard walking with a baby’s head lodged into your crotch though, lol. Today I’ve been crampy. I just hope Jayden at least holds out until we cast my belly. If he comes before we cast my belly, he will never hear the end of it!

Here is the bedding and crib that we have for Jayden’s nursery:

For those that are wondering why much hasn’t been said about the nursery, it’s because we won’t be setting up a nursery until we move this summer. Jayden will be here in May, or April, then we’ll be moving between June and August. So no point in making things all pretty only to take them back down.

Since the end is near, I’ll try to pop in more often with updates. Expect a few more posts per day, which will be updates, random thoughts from Daddy or me, product reviews, and giveaways. We have quite a few giveaways in queue. That all being said, hold on to your computers and fire up those feed readers! It’s going to be pretty busy here on Mommy Daddy Blog!

36th Week Update + Dr. Visit

April 10th marked 36 weeks for me. Sorry I’m late but I’ve just been overwhelmed with things. Thanks, Daddy, for picking the Crocheted Sunflower Infant Hat Giveaway Winner while I was fast asleep!

We had another dr’s appointment Tuesday, the 8th. The midwife checked my cervix and Jayden’s head has dropped low. I’m going to say that he dropped between week 34-35 because that’s when I started to feel the additional pressure. It’s definitely much harder to walk now, I waddle more, and there’s more pressure on my back, legs, and feet. I’m running to the bathroom more than ever too. I can’t even sleep through the night! I go potty at least 6 times each night! Oh and about that heartburn that’s supposed to go away…it didn’t.

Mommy

I have found that I am addicted to lime flavored and scented products. They are Edy’s Lime Fruit Bars, Blessed Nest Sour Lime/Ginger Lip Balm, and Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena body cream and splash. I didn’t even realize my addiction until I clung to the Coconut Lime Verbena. If you have something lime, send it my way!

Oh this reminded me of something funny my nutritionist asked me Monday:

Nutritionist: Have you had any non-food cravings?
Me: Huh?
Nutritionist: Have you been craving to eat items that aren’t food? We had one lady come in here that ate dryer lint.
Me: *laughs out loud* UH NO, I haven’t wanted to eat anything but food. *laughs out loud*
Nutritionist: Hey it’s possible, pregnant women have strange cravings.
Me: *snickers*

After reading B.Y.O.Gown - The Girlie Variety at The Opinionated Parent, I am disgusted at the thought of using an hospital gown, lol. I wish I didn’t read the post BUT if you continue to read you’ll find that they are giving away a Girlie Gown! How innovative and stylish! My favorite pattern is the black and white Modern Mummy. It’s wise to choose the darkest since there’s going to be mess involved, lol. I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be the winner of the giveaway!

The weather is just starting to get warmer and I bought a new lens, tripod, and other things for my camera, so I’ll be sure to update with more pictures. Expect more product reviews and giveaways as well. Until next time!
