I recently picked up my very first bottle of Mod Podge and I am hooked. For my very first project I decided to attempt to decorate some frames for Valentine’s Day. I honestly had no idea what I was doing, but I love how they turned out!

This project is perfect for sprucing up old frames. I didn’t have any frames in need of an immediate makeover so I picked some up at Walmart for 98 cents.

I was hoping to find white frames, but I was unable to find any. I ended up grabbing brown frames and painting them with white acrylic paint.

In Photoshop, I made a chevron pattern, tiled it to fit an entire sheet of paper, and printed it out.

I then, brushed a little Mod Podge on the frame and placed the frame on the back of my chevron pattern.

With a X-ACTO knife, I trimmed around the frame, leaving just enough paper to fold around the frame.

I brushed a layer of Mod Podge on top of the chevron paper and folded the excess paper around the frame. I glopped on too much Mod Podge in some areas, so the ink bled a little. Other than that it looks super cool, huh?

Although my frame was pretty pre-glitter, I decided to go over the red chevron lines with a red glitter pen.

Voila!

I also decorated another frame (not as great as my first) and slid a cute “i love us” print inside.

For Valentine’s Day I decided to design Valentine’s Day photo cards of Boogie and send them out to family. I had the design completed weeks ago but why will I be mailing them today…Valentine’s Day? Time always seems to get away from me no matter how hard I try to do things early.

When thinking about the design of the photo cards, I wanted to dress Boogie up like Cupid and go with red schemed cards. The more I thought about it, the more unoriginal and babyish the idea seemed. I mean come on, Boogie is too mature for that, lol! When I look at him, I see a big boy in a little dumpling’s body. I thought it would be best to do GQ themed photo cards.

To add a special touch, I decided to use customized Photo Stamps on each envelope.

I know, I know. Postage is already through the roof, so it is hard to justify the price of Photo Stamps. If you choose to purchase Photo Stamps, it’s best to use them for special occasions. Send them to people who would appreciate them. Order a sheet of 27 cent stamps and then use a regular 17 cent stamp to foot the balance. It always helps to check online for coupon codes as well.

I can’t wait until the photo cards arrive in the hands of our family and friends. I know they are going to love and get an extra kick out of the little hottie on the postage.

How To Enter

So after contemplating ideas on a Valentine’s Day related way of entering this giveaway, I decided to go with a poem. No, I won’t require you to write a poem because if you’re anything like me, you suck at writing poems. How this is going to work is I’m going to provide you with a poem, elegantly crafted by yours truly, that includes two blanks. All you have to do is copy the poem, paste it into the comment box below, and fill in both blanks (refer to the next paragraph that comes after the poem below for guidelines on what should be inserted into the blanks) to qualify for this giveaway. Easy enough, right? Here’s the poem:

Man I could definitely give Shakespeare a run for his money, don’t you agree? No? Ok. Back to the poem. Now, here are the rules: in the first blank, insert the name of the person who will be your Valentine this year. It could be your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, fiancee, fiance, dog, cat, mom, third cousin removed, whoever. In the second blank, insert a word or phrase that finishes the last sentence, BUT the word (or last word of the phrase) that you insert MUST rhyme with the name you inserted in the first blank! Let me give you an example. I completed the poem for Sheena and I had her do the same for me:

My example:
Happy Valentine’s Day!
I love you, Sheena!
The very thought of you,
Makes me want to screama!

Sheena’s example:
Happy Valentine’s Day!
I love you, Greg!
The very thought of you,
Makes me want to lay an egg!

As you can see, Sheena’s the more creative one between the both of us, but hey I couldn’t think of anything better to rhyme with Sheena! It’s her fault for having an unrhymable name! But anyway, I’m pretty sure you get it now:

First blank: name of your Valentine.
Second blank: word, or phrase, that describes what the thought of your Valentine makes you want to do, and the word (or ending word) has to rhyme with your Valentine’s name.

As far as criteria guidelines for the second blank, anything goes! It can be one word, it can be 100 words. It doesn’t even have to be a real word (as you can see by my usage of the “word” screama). Although it’s not a requirement, it would be nice if you at least try to make the word/phrase in the second blank pertain to something loving. But hey, if your husband’s name is Bart and the thought of him makes you want to fart, then go ahead and let it be known!

The five most creative entries, as judged by Sheena and myself, will be chosen as the winners of this giveaway. So be sure to give it some thought! This giveaway will end on February 8th at 7PM CST and is open to residents of the U.S. only!

I’ve been doing good with sending out themed photos of Boogie. So far we’ve done photo birth announcements, Halloween photos, and the Christmas photos (never uploaded to flickr) as well as photo cards. With Valentine’s Day creeping up, I’m trying to get the next batch of themed photos complete. I actually took them yesterday, I just have to design the card (squeals in excitement)!

Speaking of designing, Lil Sweet Prince did an awesome job designing our photo cards for Christmas! We chose sweater weather with a metallic finish. Our family really enjoyed them!
