So Greg and I picked out Halloween costumes for Jayden in September; a Chicago Bears football costume, and a pirate costume. Since I’m usually in charge of his costumes, I let Greg take over. He ordered the Chicago Bears costume from an online retailer that shall remain nameless. Days and days would go by with no shipping notification or worse… that the costume was out of stock. It took him logging in and checking his order to find that the costume was out of stock. So. I go over to another online retailer that shall remain nameless and order the [...]

A closeup of my creative confections. Earlier this month, Wilton sent me a big ol’ box of goodies to create some treats for Halloween and Fall. I received supplies to make cookies and cupcakes and well, the cookies were a #fail and I tried twice! Ah the joys of baking gluten-free. The cookies themselves were some of the chewiest and yummiest cookies EVAR, but I couldn’t get them to hold their shapes. These are supposed to be pumpkins, candy corn, Frankenstein heads, and cats. Yea. Recipe for these coming soon. Tired of fighting with the cookies, I decided to bake [...]

In addition to Christmas Layaway, Walmart will be offering Christmas Price Match Guarantee starting Novemeber 1st – December 25th. This offering will give me the peace of mind knowing that if I purchase gifts at Walmart whether outright or through Layaway, I can still get my items for the lowest price possible, as long as I have the competitor’s original ad and original Walmart receipt. Walmart will then issue the difference in the form of a gift card. And that works for me! How It Works All branded, general merchandise including toys, home goods, electronics, hardware, etc. are eligible for [...]

Starting October 17th, Christmas Layaway will be available at Walmart stores!!! I for one am super excited about this because this gives us a chance to reserve the items that we want before the Holiday rush whisks them all away. We don’t do credit cards so this gives us a chance to tend to our current financial obligations and gradually make payments on gifts and own them before Christmas. Remorse-free. How Walmart Layaway 2011 Works Only toys and electronics are eligible for layaway. Click here to view a detailed list of eligible items. Layaway applies to items purchased in stores and not [...]

Halloween Shopping List Plush Pirate Mickey Treat Bowl Assorted Candy 3 Hanging Heads 20pk Bats 4pk Spiders Command Hooks Freaky Fabric Pumpkin Lights Purple Icicle Lights (couldn’t figure out what to do with them) With [...]

My Halloween finds under $32 I’m a sucker for autumn decor, as if you couldn’t tell. So as soon as Walmart put out their selection, I grabbed some things before I even knew I’d have the opportunity to write a sponsored post about it. So without further ado, let’s take a tour shall we? In true Sheena fashion, the fridge is decorated with Halloween themed window clings. The mini scare crows were planted with the cilantro (pictured), but then I moved them to my herb box (not pictured). The jack-o-lantern rests on the bench in our entryway. I stuck one [...]

Our Fourth was what I’d call another freestyled Fourth. We did add sparklers and Pop-Its ($2 a pack, woohoo) to our little celebration and in true Sheena fashion, window clings ($1 per sheet, woohoo x2) on the fridge. It took Jayden a while to learn how to use the Pop-Its, but they were a hit. He’d drop them on the ground without much force and when they didn’t pop, in a concerned tone, he’d say, “Try again” picking them back up. When the Pop-Its did pop, he’d proudly exclaim, “I did it!” He held a few sparklers (under parental guidance [...]

I swear the 4th has snuck up on us. Which also meant scrambling for ideas for this year’s special dessert. I wanted to bake some cupcakes and give them a patriotic twist without artificial coloring. I’m just on the fence about them and avoid them as much as possible. So I decided that strawberries and blueberries would give my star shaped cupcakes a patriotic splash of color. Using my favorite recipe for vanilla cupcakes, I folded sliced strawberries and whole blueberries into the batter and topped them with a cream cheese icing and more strawberries and blueberries. I love how [...]
