So Greg and I picked out Halloween costumes for Jayden in September; a Chicago Bears football costume, and a pirate costume. Since I’m usually in charge of his costumes, I let Greg take over. He ordered the Chicago Bears costume from an online retailer that shall remain nameless. Days and days would go by with no shipping notification or worse… that the costume was out of stock. It took him logging in and checking his order to find that the costume was out of stock.

So.

I go over to another online retailer that shall remain nameless and order the pirate costume, two necklaces with expedited shipping. The next day, I receive order confirmation. Good. I open it up and the second sentence that I read states, “Note: We cannot cancel orders or change/add items to an order after it has been submitted.” Eh. I scroll down to see that the pirate costume is no longer available, but now I’m being shipped two necklaces that I really don’t even need at the expedited shipping price. Grrr. So, I’m handling that. I’m definitely ordering next year’s costumes post-Halloween like I did the year before.

Tired of the online shenanigans, we decided to run to Target to see what they had to offer and Jayden fell in love with a Spider Man costume. He even wears it around the house, as I figured he would – good investment! So many little boys will be Spider Man this year and it’s a typical costume, but oh em gee is he super cute! And the built in boobs muscles are so funny!

So, the costume is obviously from Target, the Monster shoes are from Crazy 8, and I’m linking up at Small Style :).

A closeup of my creative confections.

Earlier this month, Wilton sent me a big ol’ box of goodies to create some treats for Halloween and Fall. I received supplies to make cookies and cupcakes and well, the cookies were a #fail and I tried twice! Ah the joys of baking gluten-free. The cookies themselves were some of the chewiest and yummiest cookies EVAR, but I couldn’t get them to hold their shapes.

These are supposed to be pumpkins, candy corn, Frankenstein heads, and cats. Yea. Recipe for these coming soon.

Tired of fighting with the cookies, I decided to bake some pumpkin muffins which burned on the bottom. Darn oven. So I moved on to cupcakes. Sometimes baking can be such a headache, lol!

The recipe that I used is a simple vanilla cake recipe with a little nutmeg for Fall comfort. I figured I’d play it safe and not spend too much time on these since the pumpkin muffins consisted of so many ingredients. I forgot to add baking soda, so my cupcakes are hanging a little low.

I totally just freestyled the decorations. I used different tips for different colors since I only had  two star shaped tips. Note to self: Have at least 4 of the same tips on hand. I felt a little indifferent about my decor job, but after I started photographing them, my head blew up a little. They look darn good to be rushed ;).

Love it!

So Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. And I admit, I’m using Jayden as an excuse to relive my childhood, only like 10x’s better, lol. I really like decorating our home according to season. It just makes life at home more exciting! I had the opportunity to shop Kmart’s Totally Ghoul selection using Kmart’s 50ft Party and Dawn’s Kmart Halloween Party Bluprint as inspiration.

With a budget of $100, I was able to get everything on my Halloween Shopping List, with enough left over to buy this super cute sorceress costume (which, by the way fits super nice)!

So. How did I incorporate my Kmart finds in our home?

Well, I decorated our front door using the freaky fabric, spiders, bats, and some glow in the dark skeletons I had on hand. I attached the fabric to the door using the Command Hooks and carefully glued the spiders, bats, and skeletons on to the fabric with tacky and hot glue. It was so much fun!

Using the hanging heads and some of the bats, I decorated our Living Room banister which compliment the garland and lights I already had on hand. *makes witch face*

I had enough freaky fabric left over to cover a bench in our entry way. I glued some leaves that I already had to the fabric to compliment our metal tree and jackolantern arrangement. Assorted candies were added to our mini treat buckets to complete the look, but of course we can’t leave them in there! Candy lovin’ toddler on the prowl!

Our plush Mickey went on top of the credenza. It currently houses our cellphones. I strung the pumpkin lights across the credenza. It’s as close as we’re getting to a decorated mantel, lol. Ignore the fingerprints on the photo frame… it is touch screen.

Ahh, that was so invigorating.

My Halloween finds under $32

I’m a sucker for autumn decor, as if you couldn’t tell. So as soon as Walmart put out their selection, I grabbed some things before I even knew I’d have the opportunity to write a sponsored post about it.

So without further ado, let’s take a tour shall we?

In true Sheena fashion, the fridge is decorated with Halloween themed window clings.

The mini scare crows were planted with the cilantro (pictured), but then I moved them to my herb box (not pictured).

The jack-o-lantern rests on the bench in our entryway. I stuck one of the skeletons in the tree. This is so autumn!

I put the Better Homes and Gardens pumpkins in a basket on our credenza. Oh, I glued the leaves that came with to the freaky fabric on the bench in the previous photo.

I wrapped the garland and lights around our banister. Spooktacular or what?

The rest of the skeletons hang on our front door. I got a little crafty :).

This buttery soft Better Homes and Gardens throw has been stolen by Jayden. Periodically, it ends up back in the living room. I think I’m going to buy a backup. Love it!

LEGO blocks were one of my absolute favorite toys to play with as a child. It’s hard to believe the company has been around 30 whole years! Since Halloween is around the corner, I decided to see if any stores were selling any LEGO costumes. To my surprise, the results were slim. I did find some do it yourself instructions on how to make a LEGO block costume in less than an hour! It’s such a clever idea, so I’d share!

Craft Materials:

• Measuring tape
• Utility knife
• Large cardboard box (child’s shoulder width)
• Margarine containers or plastic cups
• Pencil
• Hot glue gun
• Small shallow box (that fits your child’s head)
• Spray paint
• Baseball cap
• Double-sided tape
• Gloves
• Sweatsuit
• Sneakers

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. To make the body: Measure the circumference of your child’s head, then, using a untility knife, cut a head opening in the top of the box approximately 2 inches from the front edge. Cut an armhole on each side of the box near the top front corner. Have your child try the box on so you can make any adjustments.

2. Now lay the box flat, front-side up, and arrange the margarine containers. Using the pencil, trace around each one. Using the hot glue gun, apply glue around the lip of the container, then press it in place. Repeat for the five other containers.

3. Glue an additional container upside down on top of the smaller box. In a well-ventilated area, spray-paint both boxes.

4. To make the hat: Have your child put a baseball cap on backward, then apply double-sided tape to the top of the cap. Fit the box on top of the cap so that the box just covers the bottom edge of the back of the hat.

Tips:
Make sure the box is narrow enough to let your child’s arms hang down — or they will get tired from carrying the weight of all that sugary loot.

Variations:
Like real LEGOs, this costume can be made in different configurations, depending on the size of the boxes and the cups you use. Here, we’ve shown the costume created with margarine tubs so it looks like one king-size LEGO piece. In another original version, you might glue on 35 small drinking cups, then delineate eight “bricks” using a black marker.
