My Conception Story

Months ago I went through a panic where I wanted to detox my body. I had been on the Depo Provera shot for 16 months as of April of this year and wanted to make sure that the drug was completely out of my system. Originally I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo Pills to minimize cramping during my cycles, I had no problems with them just dizzy spells in the morning. I decided to take them later in the day and everything was fine. When I went off to college, I wasn’t able to always refill on time and it became a problem. When I was in high school, I had heard a girl say that the Depo shot would help you gain weight in the right places. That appealed to me because I have been thin all of my life and I wasn’t able to gain weight if my life depended on it. When I requested the Depo shot, my Gyn was very lax about prescribing the drug to me. She warned me that I could only stay on Depo for 2 years because it could make my bones weak and she suggested that I take calcium and frequently drink milk. She didn’t tell me that taking Depo Provera could lead to infertility and other complications. I had to find that out on my own while curiously searching the web. The Depo Provera horror stories are just never-ending. After reading so many of them I was afraid that I would have complications trying to conceive because of this drug. Starting a family early is so important to Daddy and I so you can see why I panicked.

I bought a detox kit. I also purchased Vitex, and Soy Isoflavones, none of which I used! Some of the vitamins read that pregnant women should not take them and at the time the Depo shot had my menstrual cycle on PAUSE. While on Depo I bled for months at a time, once I stopped getting the shots, I stopped bleeding all together. To be on the safe side, I didn’t take any of the vitamins. Since it’s said that Depo can take up to 6 months to a year or MORE to leave the body, I began to believe that I would be infertile for a very long time. I tried to work up the courage to see a doctor about getting my menstrual cycle restarted. Some doctors will gladly help and then others will try to tell you that you’re too young for such and such, so I didn’t want to deal with that. I started noticing some changes in my body which I thought were side effects from coming off of Depo. Extreme hunger pains, nausea, dizziness, and loss of energy in September. This episode lasted about a week. I didn’t think much of the symptoms because I read that many women have those symptoms coming off of Depo. I just wasn’t convinced that I was pregnant. I figured that Daddy and I having a baby was something that we wanted more than anything in the world, it’s such an exciting thing, and it just wouldn’t happen to us at least not so quickly. Regardless of my doubts, I treated my body as if there was a life inside of me. Then, the “girls” started getting plumper, my stomach grew a little pudge, I gained some love handles. I thought What’s going on? Hmm I’m loving the girls but my stomach’s looking a little out of shape, must be the Depo. Could I be pregnant? I wanted to take a home pregnancy test, but read that in a lot of cases whether pregnant or not with Depo being in the system the test would read negative, so I decided that I would just go to the doctor for a blood test, those don’t lie. I told myself that after our vacation on a cruise that I would go get a blood test. On the cruise I was running to the bathroom every 2 seconds and I was ready for bed by 6pm. Daddy suggested I just take a test from the store. I still didn’t want to because I had a feeling it wouldn’t work. When we got home from the cruise we picked up a value pack of 2 Answer brand pregnancy tests. The instructions tell you to wait 3 minutes for results. In less than 30 SECONDS…

Now That I Think About It…

Taco Bell Dog ThinkingIf you recall from one of our recent posts, Our First Doctor Visit, the ultrasound technician told us that Sheena (who from hereafter will be called Mommy) was 19 weeks, 4 days pregnant. That was on December 17th, and now that the excitement of being able to see our first child has calmed a bit, I began to think about other things; such as, when exactly did we conceive Jayden? Not only when, but where, and how? Because that moment should be one that we remember for the rest of our lives, right? It was the *boom chicka wah wah* that brought about our first child. And what a joy it would be if it was the time we did it in a Taco Bell bathroom and I ended up with a quesadilla cheesed to the side of my ass. We’d never be able to explain to our son why he has an uncontrollable lust for burritos. Luckily for us though, our Taco Bell rendezvous took place over 2 years ago (whew!).

So, time traveling back 19 weeks and 4 days from December 17th brought me to August 2nd. Back during the first two weeks of August, Mommy and I were staying with our mothers because the lease on our last place ended on the 31st of July and the lease on our current place hadn’t begun until the 15th of August. So needless to say, it was a pretty slow couple of weeks in the sex department for us (longest two weeks of my life!). Thus it wasn’t very difficult to pinpoint when exactly we conceived Jayden: August 13th.

Now I know the 13th is a whole week and a half later than the 2nd, but whoever said ultrasound technicians were 100% accurate? So as I reminisced about our “time in question” (and developed a slight boner), I realized an ironic event that led up to that “time in question”…

The day before (August 12th), my mother thought she’d take us (along with my sister, her boyfriend, my brother, and his girlfriend) out to Red Lobster before we left to move into our new place. It was fun. We talked, we ate, we joked. But there was one joke in particular that now stands out more than ever. My mother joked that she’s glad we’re finally older and she doesn’t have to deal with kids anymore. She also joked that that meant that we better not have any kids soon because she didn’t plan on becoming a grandma any time soon. After a few eye shuffles and chuckles, the subject was changed. Well, that same night, Mommy spent the night with me over my mother’s house. Together we looked at old, embarrassing photos of me, we watched movies, we cuddled. And needless to say, once the snores began throughout the house, Mommy and I went at it like two cats in heat!

Fast forward back to today. Mommy is now almost 5 months pregnant; making my mother a soon-to-be-grandma. I think this will be a funny story to bring up during my family Christmas party….. 20 years from now!

Edited by Mommy: The Taco Bell rendezvous NEVER happened!

Welcome To Mommy Daddy Blog!

Welcome to Mommy Daddy Blog! Here at Mommy Daddy Blog, we [Mommy (Sheena) and Daddy (Greg)] will keep you updated on our first pregnancy and our adventure through parenthood. We will also be reviewing tons of our favorite products! Don’t laugh at us, but we had this website registered since April 22nd!

Mommy is a Depo Provera victim who is experiencing a miracle. Mommy had been on the Depo Provera shot for 16 months before deciding to discontinue using the drug due to the horrible horror stories she curiously stumbled across on the web. Worried that she would have complications conceiving in the future, she began to research what she could do to detox her body. But before she even got around to the actual process of detoxing she found out that she was pregnant! She had been pregnant since August and didn’t even know it! How can you go so long without knowing that you’re pregnant? Mommy didn’t experience the blatant pregnancy symptoms and when she discontinued her Depo shots her mentral cycle went with it. It wasn’t until her stomach started chubbin’ up that she began to question if she was pregnant. Taking two pregnancy tests confirmed that Mommy was indeed pregnant! Stay tuned for our 1st doctor visit!
