I’m a sucker for autumn decor.

My Halloween finds under $32 I’m a sucker for autumn decor, as if you couldn’t tell. So as soon as Walmart put out their selection, I grabbed some things before I even knew I’d have the opportunity to write a sponsored post about it. So without further ado, let’s take a tour shall we? In true Sheena fashion, the fridge is decorated with Halloween themed window clings. The mini scare crows were planted with the cilantro (pictured), but then I moved them to my herb box (not pictured). The jack-o-lantern rests on the bench in our entryway. I stuck one [...]Continue Reading

Mexican Rice and Bean Salad

Last week, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, I decided to brush up on my Mexican dishes. I experimented with guacamole, tortilla stew (which I turned into a bean soup), rice and bean salad, and allergy free tortillas (not as tasty as corn tortilla *sigh*). Before I go posting all of the recipes, I need to perfect them first, so today, I’ll just share the rice and bean salad recipe since it was fail-proof and it photographed really well :) . Before I get into the recipe, I’d like to share a little “Did you know?” about my family. My uncle’s [...]Continue Reading

DIY HE Liquid Laundry Detergent

Lately, I’ve been brushing up on my domestic skills and I recently started making my own HE laundry detergent that works great in our Whirlpool Duet washer. Instead of talking about custom cycles as originally planned, I’d like to share my laundry detergent recipe instead. Before I get into the recipe, I’d like to update a bit on the our Duet pair. They are still serving us well and we are quite pleased with them. We haven’t created any custom cycles since we are content with the built in suite of cycles. So yeah that kind of skewed my plans [...]Continue Reading

SweeTango Apples: The Best I’ve Ever Had & A Muffin Recipe

While I generally love anything with apples; applesauce, apple pie, apple jelly, apple whatever, I don’t eat the fruit (apples) as often as I’d like. I prefer an apple that is both equally sweet and tangy and those are hard come by. The apples I have eaten have either lacked sweetness or tanginess. Weeell, I was offered the opportunity to try SweeTango, a new variety of apples promising to be oh-so-delicious. I figured if I didn’t want to eat them as is, I’d just bake with them. The latter did not happen. I received a shipment of SweeTango apples (overnighted, first [...]Continue Reading

Slow Cooker Mixed Bean & Italian Sausage Soup

Italian sausage during grilling season is one of my weaknesses. The flavor of the sausage combined with a well done grilled taste, hint of BBQ sauce of a bun is enough for me. So when asked to try Johnsonville’s new Brat and Italian Sausage Burgers, I was super excited. Italian sausage in the form of a hamburger patty? Heck yeah. So I thought. I really wanted to like the Brat Burgers, but I have texture issues. I have a hard time biting into anything that mimics a scrambled egg patty, no matter how delicious the flavor is. The burgers were [...]Continue Reading

My Maybelline Silver Diva Runway Makeup Look

One of the things on my life list is to improve my eye makeup techniques. I am a bare faced diva by nature, but I do like adding a natural foundation for a more polished look and a little color to dress up my beady brown eyes. Just a little makeup goes a long way and when I wear it, I look more like a woman and less like a child. Someday I’m sure I’ll want to have that childhood glow back, but now I’m trying to get my grown and sexy on *puckers mouth and bats eyelashes*. Earlier this [...]Continue Reading

Nice Save is a new application tab on Walmart’s Facebook page that represents Walmart’s commitment to Every Day Low Prices. Each month, Walmart helps its consumers solve a new challenge by connecting them with a community of Facebook fans that have tried-and-true money saving tips. The challenges are each dedicated to a different seasonal theme (the first one is Game Time), and users are asked to submit their solutions within a specific, affordable price point (i.e. Game Day under $50). Some of us Walmart Moms will be hosts of each challenge and Tara of Deal Seeking Mom is up first [...]Continue Reading

Three Inspiring Jamaican Female Artists

I returned home from Jamaica last Tuesday and I am still reflecting over the fabulous time that I had; the adventure, the laughs, the tears, the inspiration that ensued. I will spare the full nitty gritty and break it all down into a series of post-reflections, but today I want to highlight the lovely female artists I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in the rolling hills. These women inspire me to take my creative works to another level, tap into new genres of creative works even, be free, and also step up my sustainable efforts. These ladies are super talented [...]Continue Reading
