Luckily for us my 13yr old daughter took the lead all around on this one… she went vegetarian almost a year ago and that has helped us all to eat healthier. We’ve also recently moved and Miss Social finds it necessary to bike or walk the neighborhood and get acquainted with our environment and neighbors. She’s a blessing

9 Suanne Giddings April 26, 2009 at 11:59 pm

We grow amazing vegetables under Alaska’s summer sun and hunt for only anumals that we will use all of the meat and skin. When shopping at a store, I substitute lean meats like white meat chicken and lean ground turkey breast. We eat lots of veggies too. When we get the treat of eating out together, we try a take and bakc pizza loaded with veggies or subway low fat subs. Plus, living in Alaska, we get outdoors all the time. These prizes would be a fabulous addition to our outdoor fun arsenal.

What are some things that you do to make sure your family eats healthy? I try to have plenty of yogurt and fruits to snack on during the in-between meals time. What family activities do you participate in to get away from the screen? We genuinely like to play board games. We have a board game night. Thanks for this chance!

28 Rebecca Moore April 26, 2009 at 2:54 pm

To make sure my family eats healthy..we try to use fruits and veggies instead of chips/dips and candies.

We also try to make a balanced meal..

Lots of outside time

29 R Hicks April 26, 2009 at 2:38 pm

To get away from the computer, we sometimes go to the park, the zoo, or just a walk around the block.

30 Pauline M April 26, 2009 at 2:13 pm

I have a condo where the pool opens during the summer, so we spend alot of time there! It’s free (so to speak!) and the kids love it. During these months as well, I hit the Farmers Market every weekend and purchase a bunch of fruit which I cut up and place in a large bowl in the fridge with a pack of toothpicks. My kids will munch on this all summer.

31 zoey April 26, 2009 at 2:11 pm

To keep my family healthy and active we have banned fast food and exercise daily – usually a family hike; great exercise and all so a chance to talk without interruptions.

32 jayne April 26, 2009 at 2:09 pm

33 Deb W April 26, 2009 at 1:54 pm

41 Sonya Allstun April 26, 2009 at 4:45 am

We get the kids involved in helping grow veggies in the garden and they get more excited about eating them when they grow them. It also gets them away from the tv they are more then happy to go check and care for their gardeninstead of sitting in front of the tv.

42 Leigh Nichols April 26, 2009 at 4:15 am

We enjoy bikeriding together and long hikes in the country whenever we visit my mother.
Also, reading is a HUGE deal in our house. It’s mandatory…lol.
We have a basketball goal that we try to outdo each other with as well.

43 Chrysa April 26, 2009 at 4:06 am

I have been trying to cook healthier meals and have healthier snacks. Now that the weather is warming up, it’s a lot easier to get active outside too!

44 Heather Goldsmith April 26, 2009 at 3:38 am

I help my family eat healthy by placing a large bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen counter. On warm days when the kids are playing in the backyard, I make sure that they each have a large water bottle handy.

An activity that gets us away from the TV is playing volleyball.

45 Jessica April 26, 2009 at 3:12 am

I get my famiyl to eat healthy by not buying the junk food. If junk food is at our house the kids will want to eat it (and the parents too) So I buy healthier alternatives liek fruit snack, fiber bars, low fat cookies. We also try to have at least one outdoor activity a week. We either go to the beach, to the park, fishing, ANything to get us out of the house and do it together.
THANKS
I also used the Deceptively Delicious Cookbook by Jessica Seinfeld and it really works. My children have no idea what they are really eating like pureed cauliflower. My daughter loves the Coconut Chicken Nuggets. Great way to sneak the vieggies in.

46 vickie ferrari April 26, 2009 at 2:35 am

I use Deceptively Delicious cookbook which uses pureed vegetables to cook all your meals.

47 cathleen nash April 26, 2009 at 2:23 am

Eating healthy means watching portion sizes and no midnight snacking! Watching our weight and cholesterol is too important. For activity purposes, taking a stroll in the city and running around in the big parks is wonderful! Lots of trips to the library too- for books (not internet surfing!) Thanks for the entry!

48 Emmy T April 26, 2009 at 2:22 am

Smoothys make a yummy, healthy treat, and we play on the Wii or walk the dog to the park for exercise.

49 Jennifer Jozwiak April 26, 2009 at 1:42 am

Well i eat healthy, and my little one just drinks milk since she’s brand new lol. i do take her on walks to the park so I’m getting my exercise too.

54 Melanie April 25, 2009 at 11:56 pm

We’ve been buying alot of pure or organic foods.
You can even buy icecream with simple pure ingredients now, so there is no excuse not to eat better.

55 Amber S. April 25, 2009 at 11:39 pm

We typically don’t have junk food in our house, so we eat healthy quite often. Every once in awhile, I’ll buy a treat for everyone. We play outside a lot and take evening walks around the neighborhood. :)

56 Ann April 25, 2009 at 11:26 pm

We love playing badminton and lots of racquet type games. Healthy snacks are easily grabbed and available at home.

57 Sherry R April 25, 2009 at 7:40 pm

I try to keep healthy snacks on hand to encourage better eating. Now that Spring is here, we are spending more time outside going for walks and to the park.

58 ky2here April 25, 2009 at 6:00 pm

I simply lock them out of the house and they quickly learn to fend for themselves.

59 Tesa April 25, 2009 at 4:41 pm

I arrange veggies to look like faces, and we go camping to get away from the screen.

60 Suzanne Lewis April 25, 2009 at 4:32 pm

Fruits are encouraged as a snack, and there is always at least 1 veggie with dinner. WE take family walks in the neighborhood.

We go outside! No plug ins out there!

63 djgroz April 25, 2009 at 3:10 pm

We love to read and we love to play cards. There should be a national year turn off the screen!

64 Courtney April 25, 2009 at 2:28 pm

The biggest thing I do to help my family eat healthy is to put the good choices in front of them and make it easy! I keep the fridge stocked with fruit and veggies (already cut up so there’s no excuse!) and I find that even my toddler makes the right choices usually.

annasmama0702@gmail.com

65 Cynthia Sheeks April 25, 2009 at 12:45 pm

We make it a point to go outside to play with our daughter after work. If the weather is bad, we turn on some music and DANCE!

66 Jill L April 25, 2009 at 12:27 pm

The first thing is stay away from the fast food restaurants. I also make sure that we have lots of fresh fruit and veggies at dinner time.

67 Lisa H April 25, 2009 at 5:07 am

We eat healthy because I buy healthy. Fresh fruit and vegetables are in the fridge for snacks but no candy and chips. Our family activities include camping, fishing, and family walks. We’re been having the screen turned off more than on lately.

68 Andreah April 25, 2009 at 2:52 am

We only buy junkfood for special occasions (birthdays, etc.) We encourage the boys to eat veggies and fruits for snacks. I make a lot of things from scratch to avoid the over processed foods.

When the weather allows we take the kids to the nature park for hikes. When the weather is bad we stay in and play the Wii Fit.

69 Paula H April 25, 2009 at 2:33 am

I get them involved helping to plan meals. They love to look through recipe books. My older kids help me cook and then we sit down as a family to eat dinner.

We like to ride our bikes together. We also go to the park, go to the zoo often, play in the yard together and take walks around our neighborhood. We just planted a big garden so we will be working in that, too, as needed.

70 Mia J. April 25, 2009 at 1:53 am

We like to go hiking and walking in our neighborhood. We also like to do gardening in our yard.

71 Sarah Z April 25, 2009 at 1:28 am

After dinner we go for a walk as a family. We live near a little nature trail and the kids love it and so do we.

74 Jennifer C. April 24, 2009 at 9:58 pm

We have been choosing fresh produce over canned as a healthier choice and always have lean meats. I’ve also been keeping the pop out of the house and making Kool Aid with less sugar.

75 Hallie April 24, 2009 at 7:27 pm

From an early age my daughter has been exposed to only health choices. Its made clear that processed sugar is reserved for special occasions. Gardening and exploring the outside world are our favorite alternatives to the tube!

76 ktanjatk April 24, 2009 at 6:51 pm

We eat healthy organic foods, set time for exercise and going outdoors as much as we can! We love going to the beach :)

77 Molly K April 24, 2009 at 6:41 pm

We always make sure we offer a vegetable at dinner and the kids evening snack is either fresh fruit or yogurt. We play outside every evening (weather permitting) or we walk/bike to our local park and play on the equipment or play baseball on the field.

78 Jenn April 24, 2009 at 6:37 pm

To be healthy, we eat 2 fruits and or veggies at lunch and dinner. We also choose healthy snacks. As for time away from the tv, we play family kick ball or take evening walks!

79 Marie April 24, 2009 at 6:18 pm

To promote staying healthy we grow our own veggies — I find that the kids are more willing to eat veggies that they have helped to grow! As far as activities that don’t involve TV we go on hikes in the nearby park and we spend a lot of time outside playing games, if the weather is bad we play board games inside or read together.

80 Justine April 24, 2009 at 5:22 pm

I try to keep my kids active by firstly showing a good example…I exercise and eat well most of the time and we talk about things like calories, sugar, and fiber. We ride bikes together and take walks in the park :D

We buy organic Fruits and Veggies. We have 2 Veggies and 2 Fruits EVERY day! It amkes us healthier. On the nice warmer days we go outside and just play. Kick around a ball, Play catch, Ride Bikes, or RollerBlade. Even taking the 20 minutes walk to the mailbox is something! Thanks

82 Mir April 24, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Healthy home-cooked meals are a very important, so is eating together at the table. Good for your body and your mental health.
We also like going for walks in the many parks in our area.

83 Terra Heck April 24, 2009 at 9:19 am

Some activities that we do are going to the local parks and playing on the equipment and taking nature walks. Another thing we do is play Dance Dance Revolution on our PS2. During the summer, we go swimming a lot.

We are so far just trying to stay active walking and playing sports!

90 Rosey April 23, 2009 at 4:07 am

To promote staying healthy, we intentionally avoid junk food at the grocery store. If it isn’t in the house, we can’t eat it. You’d be amazed at how fast fruit and veggies fly when there’s not a sugary alternative (baby carrots, anyone?). To keep the kids screen times limited, we spend a lot of time at the lake in the summer, and we snowboard and sled on weekends in the Winter.

91 Kirsten April 23, 2009 at 2:25 am

My daughter and I take a walk every day. We try to make sure there are always fruits and veggies in the house.

92 jan koontz April 23, 2009 at 1:39 am

93 Pamela S April 23, 2009 at 12:58 am

To eat healthier I have my kids eat their CHOICE of a fruits or vegetables at meals. I don’t care which ones they eat as long as they eat some. So they’re learning to love them…esp. fruits!!

I just INSIST that my kids turn off the TV, the computer, and the video games and go outside!! I sometimes go outside and play with them which they always love!

94 beth shepherd April 23, 2009 at 12:27 am

96 Susan C April 22, 2009 at 11:12 pm

Taking the children grocery shopping is a good way to teach them about nutrition. Having them read the nutrition content of products and choose the healthiest one, is a healthy game I play with my grandchildren. Going to the park is my favorite way to get my family away from the screen.

smchester at gmail dot com

97 Joannie April 22, 2009 at 8:36 pm

We only eat whole, vegetarian foods, nothing packaged or processed. Snacks are fruits, nuts, raw veggies. We read instead of watching tv, and if we do watch a program, it’s something on the biography channel or a similar educational program. We’d rather be reading or outside in nature. Life’s too short to sit in front of the tv and eat junk!

98 tara healey April 22, 2009 at 8:30 pm

we stay away from all the junk food and fast food we have lots of veggies and fruit and eat dinner home everyday ..

104 Denise B. April 22, 2009 at 3:02 pm

We don’t do anything special. Our children eat fruits and vegetables without any problems, but I don’t put too much emphasis on everything having to be balanced out. I follow my European roots that being active is what is essential to being healthy. Europeans have far less health issues than Americans. Yet, they eat butter, bread, wurst, etc.; but they walk and ride bicycles a lot there.

105 brandlyn April 22, 2009 at 2:35 pm

I always have fresh vegetables and dip to go with it. My kids will eat veggies when I have dip or peanut butter to go with it.

106 scarlette April 22, 2009 at 1:27 pm

We always try to keep quick fresh and easy to eat finger veggies in fridge and walk the dogs often

107 alicia wallace April 22, 2009 at 12:28 pm

109 Robin Morse April 22, 2009 at 4:50 am

We eat vegetables while playing board games, 3 nights a week. It’s a blast!

110 Jennifer Neal April 22, 2009 at 4:49 am

We have a green on the plate every night and we go on after dinner walks!

111 rajee April 22, 2009 at 3:35 am

We play ball outside with my kids. We help to paint pictures so that we can teach them how to keep our environment green. I’ve posted many healthy recipes in my blog. My kids have enjoyed my cooking than eating in the restaurant. We take them to the library to understand more from books. We help them to clean our vaccum, gargage, plant seeds and much more. We honestly watch movie once a week and so no channels to watch everyday at home. We’re happy with our daily lives even without tv.

112 Stefanie Hartman April 22, 2009 at 3:29 am

We try to eat foods in their natural pure forms. Instead of applie pie, we are eating apples fresh. More fruits and veggies, whole grains. Subway is a restaurant we can feel good about. Otherwise we mainly eat at home. We leave the tv off and the kids play outside most of the time. We have a nice library of books too. My kids love reading. Blessings, Stefanie

113 Ellen Ring April 22, 2009 at 2:21 am

We keep fruit and cut up veggies on hand for snacking. Instead of ice cream we’ve been getting the all natural frozen fruit bars. I also try to serve at least 2 vegetables with our meals. We try to walk daily to get more exercise & as the weather warms up we’ll do more bike riding.

114 Jason Lawless April 22, 2009 at 2:18 am

My wife takes care of the healthy nutrition part – fruits, veggies, organic stuff. I am more active with them – basketball, football, softball, biking or just chasing them!

115 Annmarie April 22, 2009 at 2:10 am

I really try to make a decent dinner for my family every night that always includes vegetables. My children can be picky eaters, so I also make sure there is at least one healthy food that they like being served. To get us up & moving, we try to do activities as a family like taking walks, going to the beach, using our pool, etc. We go to my daughter’s swim meets and other events going on in the area!

116 Kate April 21, 2009 at 11:45 pm

We eat healthy meals together as a family at the table and we get outside to exercise and enjoy fresh air every day

117 Charlene April 21, 2009 at 11:42 pm

I keep plenty of fruit on hand and we have a vegetable with dinner every night. We like to go for walks, play ball and ride bikes together. These baby knee pads would be perfect for my 7 month old and the carrier would be great too.

118 Sandra Melnick April 21, 2009 at 9:30 pm

We try to eat healthy and lots of outside activities. Walks, hikes, play things. Mainly try to make it fun.

120 Veronica L. April 21, 2009 at 8:36 pm

My children are very active with wanting to go to the park and do hiking trails. Plus I also try to set a good example by snacking on healthy food so they will follow my footsteps. Thanks for a great giveaway :)

121 Elizabeth Y. April 21, 2009 at 7:30 pm

I make sure we eat healthy by A.) eating AT HOME instead of fast food; B.) substituting ingredients (i.e., egg beaters instead of eggs, wheat inside of white bread), and C.) by using light cookbooks as references for healthier meals.

122 Amir April 21, 2009 at 6:17 pm

I walk to the park and play ball w/ the kids all the time. I teach healthy eating by example. I eat healthy most of the time.

123 Karen April 21, 2009 at 6:15 pm

What are some things that you do to make sure your family eats healthy? – I sneak vegetables in wherever I can!

What family activities do you participate in to get away from the screen? – We do work around the house and make it fun!

124 Selinda McCumbers April 21, 2009 at 5:55 pm

We’re going on a walk each night after supper if the weather cooperates!

Thanks!

125 Sheila H April 21, 2009 at 5:45 pm

I try to make sure my kids get plenty of each different food group. Sugar is very limited! We are outside every chance we get when it is warm, water parks, kick ball, camping, you name were there!

126 Kristie April 21, 2009 at 5:35 pm

I always try to offer fruit for snacks and vegetables at dinner to help the family eat healthy. We like to color, play with play dough, play games, go outside-we are always finding something to do to get away from the TV.

127 hminnesota April 21, 2009 at 5:29 pm

we go to places like Barnes and Noble , library, toy stores in winter to avoid TV time. In summer of course we play outside.
For health eating, I include fruits/yogurt in snacks and salads in lunch.thanks

128 Linda Lansford April 21, 2009 at 4:57 pm

I buy fruits and vegatables and no junk food

129 Jennifer H. April 21, 2009 at 4:56 pm

I make sure fruits and yogurt are available for healthy snack options. We also enjoy going to the park and campsite by our home to go hiking around the lake. I also limit TV time and encourage outdoor, educational, or arts and craft type activities.

130 Kiki April 21, 2009 at 4:46 pm

I’ve made fresh salads a daily part of our meal. Making up a simple salad with olive oil, salt and rice vinegar and serving it with dinner has helped promote a love of salads and an interest in simpler, healthier foods.

132 Linda April 21, 2009 at 4:16 pm

We eat hot cereal in the morning with fruit, yogurt every day (makes a good dessert). On Sundays we always try to do a big outing, when everyone has free time.

133 Heather B April 21, 2009 at 4:05 pm

I have found that letting my kids be more involved with preparing meals they are more likely to try new things including fruits and vegetables. So I include them as much as possible

134 kaycee breeck April 21, 2009 at 4:04 pm

i keep healthy food in my fridge

135 sarah jane April 21, 2009 at 4:03 pm

We all go on long beach walks. We live in Fl so go year round. We go treasure hunting.

140 sandra April 21, 2009 at 3:20 pm

141 dianne April 21, 2009 at 3:20 pm

I keep the junk out of the house. I live by a bike trail and take the grandkids walking when ever I get them.

142 Kathy Scott April 21, 2009 at 2:48 pm

My kids will eat fresh vegetables if they have something to dip them in. They love spinach dip but will settle for Ranch Dressing.

144 sara marcy April 21, 2009 at 2:21 pm

We rarely eat fast food, and I only buy healthy foods. We like to walk and bike ride at our local nature center. Thank you!

146 Denise April 21, 2009 at 1:39 pm

We try to cook healthy and plan to do activities for exercise.

149 Amanda April 21, 2009 at 12:28 pm

I run almost everyday up and down the driveway while my husband pushes the baby in her walker or stroller. Some days I just walk while carrying her, but most days she plays with Daddy while I run. We eat very healthy foods and make sure we get a well-balanced meal for at least breakfast and dinner. The baby just started eating baby food, so it’s been great watching her try new things. We also play board games and work puzzles!

150 Ann Fantom April 21, 2009 at 12:10 pm

I prepare healthy meals and my husband and I try to a good role models with our eating habits.

We go bike riding, play outdoor games and when the weather is bad, we play indoor games.

151 Heather S April 21, 2009 at 11:56 am

We are trying to eat more fresh fruits and veggies to be healthier. We like to go on hikes and get exercise together.

152 Randy Bailey April 21, 2009 at 11:38 am

I have 4 grandkids so I stay pretty active with them, I spend alot of time outdoors. Also I do not use salt and try to eat well-balanced meals & snacks.

153 Margaret Smith April 21, 2009 at 11:17 am

We all eat dinner together each evening as a family. We always make healthy meals and offer fruit, veggies or both with each meal.

154 adrienne Gordon April 21, 2009 at 11:06 am

we have a balanced dinner every night and lucky, my kids are good eaters.

Every weekend we swim , hike, or bike as a family.

155 Linda Fish April 21, 2009 at 11:01 am

I use whole grain products and we walk the dog

156 Cynthia C April 21, 2009 at 10:38 am

I only keep healthy foods in the house. That eliminates all temptation. Thanks for the giveaway.

157 Michelle April 21, 2009 at 6:51 am

I serve a vegetable with every meal and salad at least once a week. I’m lucky that my daughter loves salads and even eats them for an after-school snack. We always play board games and also take our 3 dogs for walks after dinner instead of watching tv. I also limit tv watching during the school week and allow a bit more on the weekends.

158 Autumn H. April 21, 2009 at 6:06 am

we rarely eat out and we only keep fresh fruits & veggies in the house — we also walk home from preschool and ride bikes a lot!

159 MRS.MOMMYY April 21, 2009 at 5:42 am

AS far as eating- everything they can do to get involved makes them proud they made it and they want to try the food. There is sugar in the house, not denying but they have alot of fresh and canned fruit available to make snack nowls and smoothies.

We walk the dogs, go to the park, and play outside- we move our buts

160 Sue April 21, 2009 at 5:37 am

My boys are pretty good at helping me make dinner and helping my husband make breakfast. They know how to make a balanced meal and generally don’t complain about it.
We’re active – my three oldest boys are all in mountain biking clubs and like going for hikes. They also ski or snowboard all winter.
Thanks for the giveaway~

161 Noreen April 21, 2009 at 5:02 am

I have my girls help me prepare meals. They help pick the veggies, help me decide how to make them, help make the dish and then pick which dishes to eat off of. My youngest loves spinach and mushrooms and my oldest just loves broccili. I also keep lost of fresh fruit and veggies you can eat raw (red bell peppers, carrots, cucumbers and such)

162 Monica D April 21, 2009 at 4:54 am

I have an open fruit/veggie bowl policy with my 2 and 5 year old daughters. I always have several types of fruits and veggies all ready to eat (washed, cut if needed) and they can help themselves anytime they want. All other snacks they have to ask. Today they chose red pepper strips and baby carrots in the afternoon and kiwi this morning plus the fruits and veggies I served at meals. I think my oldest had an apple too. It’s an easy way to make sure they are getting a rainbow everyday without fighting them. To beat the tv I try to get outside everyday (even though we live in an area where weget 150 inches of snow a year!) and stock a greatarts and crafts cabinet so when they are bored I can direct them there.

163 Cindy B. in Montana...now in Oklahoma April 21, 2009 at 12:48 am

We don’t keep junk snacks in the house (chips, candy, etc.). They are reserved for infrequent treats only and then bought only in small quantity to be consumed at that time, no left overs for later.

We spend as much time outside as possible…walking, riding bikes, kicking a ball. Inside we read or play board games…tv at our house is very limited!

164 Madeliene April 20, 2009 at 11:46 pm

I’m very lucky that my boy loves fruit, NOW. But before that, I would try and “sneak” it in through smoothies, pancakes, muffins, etc. I’m glad whole wheat flour and other healthy baking ingredients are readily available at my store. We go to the beach a lot and just play until near exhaustion! Thanks!

165 Karly April 20, 2009 at 3:11 pm

I try to keep unheathy foods out of the house since they are so tempting! (Although every now and then, we spurge!) We like to take walks around our neighborhood and do “family-fun” beach clean ups. It’s good for us and our environment!

166 Alba Guevara April 20, 2009 at 1:45 pm

I make sure we have veggies for dinner. When we are out on the weekend we pack healthy snacks with us. Both of my boys play baseball so with baseball practice and games we are always on the move. We also do volunteer work, and marathons.

167 Kate April 20, 2009 at 1:32 pm

We make sure to eat all of our meals together at the table. I prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day to make sure we are all eating healthy food. I keep the house stocked with healthy snacks and try to keep the junk out. I love to get outside with the boys and run and play, but even on a rainy or cold day we put on the radio and dance for exercise and fun.

168 Vickie Couturier April 20, 2009 at 12:44 pm

I try to always have natural snacks for the grandchildren,an no candly or junk laying around for them to ask for, they love raisins an fruit,an we talk walks to the park so they can play, its free an they love it!

169 Dina April 20, 2009 at 11:14 am

I make sure we always have fresh fruit and veggies, as well as low-fat milk and yogurt to eat at home. We go to the park / zoo / playground any chance we get!

170 Angela Bailey April 20, 2009 at 9:03 am

I try to make a veggie with each meal and when we are out we like to pass baseball in the yard with our kids.

171 Carol April 20, 2009 at 8:29 am

What are some things that you do to make sure your family eats healthy? It all begins with consciously good healthy shopping. I take a list to the market, and avoid buying junk we’d all eat.

What family activities do you participate in to get away from the screen? We live in a lake community so we walk around our lake together.

172 Michelle M April 20, 2009 at 6:01 am

I always make sure my family gets their fruits and veggies….try to stay away from fast food. Wo also do a lot of playing outside…mostly riding bikes..thanks

173 Cathy B April 20, 2009 at 5:07 am

Well one of the biggest changes is that we are really trying to juice more and do alot of salads, lunch and supper. Sugar is rare in my house and my daughters house, ( tho I have to admit I do cheat when they aren’t around sometimes, with haagen daz, or cupcakes, or an occasional brownie!)and the kids have actually grown to request raw, organic sweet fruits or whipped fruit “raw desserts” made of coconut, dates, agave, coconut flakes and more.or apple pieces, or a navel juice orange that quenches their thirst and their spurts of hunger.
For activities away from the screen , lately the biggest one, is swimming, either the beach or the pool! They love it, not wanting to leave, gives them proper excercise and makes them ready for bed eariler!

174 valerie m April 20, 2009 at 3:43 am

fun presentation makes even ‘boring’ foods food – I like to cute veggies up into fun shapes and serve them on a platter with dips.
We like to go hiking together :)

175 Jill April 20, 2009 at 3:42 am

I’m very lucky, my Kiddo’s like fruits & veggies a lot! We already have fresh strawberries at our roadside stands, which we ate today :)

We take family bike rides, swimming, go on hikes, and we also play a lot of board games :)

Thanks for a Terrific Giveaway!

176 1stopmom April 20, 2009 at 3:04 am

Sometimes what is easiest for me is keeping healthy food in the house. My kids have loved fruits and veggies since they were itty bitty. Another thing I like to do is unplanned trips to the zoo or parks. We like to play a little kickball and I am always up for a game of tag :)

177 Clarissa April 20, 2009 at 2:58 am

We always limit the amount of junk my siblings can have until they eat their healthy fruits and veggies!

178 barbarabaker April 20, 2009 at 2:37 am

What are some things that you do to make sure your family eats healthy? I actually don’t have a problem getting my kids to eat healthy. I just don’t give them junk food, sodas and candy. I don’t bring it in the house and never give them an option of such…Am I bad? Probably, but I feel that if they have nothing but healthy choices then maybe they’ll grow with better choices.

What family activities do you participate in to get away from the screen? We love to play scrabble and other word games (as well as yatzee…love these games and it keeps us away from the screen for so long!

Would love to win your awesome prize pack!!!
-barbarabaker ;)

179 Ellen C. April 20, 2009 at 2:26 am

I try to make as much from scratch as possible and we always eat vegetables at each lunch and dinner. As for activities we go metal detecting and for walks together. Thanks for the chance.

180 Tasha April 20, 2009 at 2:24 am

My boys love grapes, bananas, and yogurt so I keep those in stock constantly. We go outside to play almost daily instead of watching tv and when it rains, we play card games and board games. The boys love it. The also love to paint and color so I bring that out if they would rather-I always let them choose!

181 Stephanie V April 20, 2009 at 1:23 am

Try to make creative veggies – like cook carrots and roll in corn flakes for crunch. Also will put pasta in veggie soup as sauce. We love evening walks as a family, looking for dogs and listening to the birds sing. We also read, go to story time/music time at our local library and have play dates!

182 susan April 20, 2009 at 1:06 am

We try very hard to do our 5-a-day of fruits and veggies. We always have dinner together and spend time in the evenings playing and reading books. With all of that, who has time for the screen?

183 Amy B. April 20, 2009 at 1:06 am

I buy fresh veggies which my kids love for snacks. I also have veggies and fruits for lunch and dinner. As far as the activities in the summer we love to play badminton and basketball while our little one pushes his trike around.

184 Shawn C. April 20, 2009 at 1:00 am

Oops I forgot about skip the screen…we play lots of board games, go for walks to the park, and lately we’ve been doing sidewalk chalk and paint art outside! We also have trips planned to the zoo and the aquarium.
correaohana at gmail dot com

185 Shawn C. April 20, 2009 at 12:59 am

I always be sure to have lots of fresh fruits and veggies ready to snack on. The kids can always grab some already washed fruits and veggies for a snack. I don’t buy junk foods and no soda…my 11 year old had soda for the first time last year at a friend’s home and thought it was gross!
correaohana at gmail dot com

186 Vicki Wurgler April 19, 2009 at 9:41 pm

I don’t buy junk foods-the boys love to munch on veggies and fruits, baby carrots they love. We all enjoy riding our bikes on the trails and hiking the city parks

187 Tricia @ Nightowlmama April 19, 2009 at 7:04 pm

I’m very blessed to have 2 who love both fruit and vegetables and the other two are fruit eaters. My children have vitamins every day with breakfast and Juicy Juice which also counts as a serving of fruit. I buy lots of fruit and vegetables and stay away from the chips, candy and pop. If its not in the house we don’t eat it.
Turning off the television is easy when I have children who don’t like to watch it and who love being outside. We have a pool, bikes, chalk, baseball tee, a trampoline and a park down the block. We have Family game night every Sunday faithfully. My daughter participated in Girl Scouts, Hip Hop Dance Class this past winter and just recently (last monday) joined Starlites which is a park district program for pom pom and batton Twirling. My children love to draw, read and do crafts with great finds that I pick up at the $ store.
The park district has so many programs for the kids to join from baseball for my 3 yr old to the baby’s Mommy and me class.
Love the Cars umbrella Stroller that is so so cute. My toddler would love that and probably rather push it than ride in it. :)

188 judy brittle April 19, 2009 at 5:31 pm

I am so lucky to have two of my grandchildren living with me and they really love healthy foods. I need to learn from them. They love all fruits,a lot of vegetables and yogurt.
We go to the park a lot to play and since I don’t drive we do a lot of walking. Thank you so much!

189 Jinxy April 19, 2009 at 5:05 pm

We are eating mostly organic and cook the majority of our meals, that way we know what its made of.

I try and take my baby for a walk every day. She’s only 3.5 months old now.

190 Angie April 19, 2009 at 11:43 am

I try to give my family at least 1 fruit and or vegetable at meal time.

To get my boys away from the screen, we go outside and play.
