Planning Jayden’s 1st Birthday: Win A $25 Gift Certificate To Birthday Express!

by Mommy on April 9, 2009

in Event Planning, Giveaways

My Booga Shuga

Boy does time fly! In less than three weeks, our Boogie will be a whole YEAR old! We want to do something special for his birthday, but we’re having a little trouble deciding on how we should celebrate it. We don’t want to go all out because he’ll only be 1, he won’t know what’s going on.

supermarioparty

We were thinking about having a Super Mario Themed party with a few Super Mario themed decorations. Maybe family members would be encouraged to wear shirts featuring their favorite Super Mario characters. Maybe Jayden could dress up like Mario. He could wear a red shirt and denim overalls! Too much?

So what do you think we should do? Help us out and you’ll be entered to win a $25 gift certificate to Birthday Express!

How To Enter

There are a total of 4 ways you can enter this giveaway. You can enter using as many methods listed below as you’d like, but be sure to leave a comment for EACH method of entry that you choose! Each method of entry is worth ONE entry into this giveaway. Here is how you can enter:

We love to have games for all the little kiddies. One year we did “stations” where they could travel and earn tickets to trade in for prizes.

THe Birthday Express has so many cute First birthday themes for boys. I especially like the Happy 1st Birthday Prince Theme. We choose the Mickey Mouse 1st Birthday Theme. The red, black and blue are so vibrant. ANd Mickey mouse is timeless. THe Mickey mouse club house is one of my 1 yr old’s favorite shows. His party is next Sunday.
Happy 1st Birthday to your little man.
We always make sure we have a smash cake for baby’s 1st. Playing little games like catch or just silly dancing are perfect party fun time for a 1 year old.

For my daughters first birthday I’m planning a cupcake party (she’s only 7 months old right now). I found these really cute cupcake pops (http://bakerella.blogspot.com/2008/04/make-your-cupcakes-pop.html) and I love the cupcake theme decorations from Birthday Express. We’re just gonna take tons of pictures and have fun together with friends and family. I can’t believe my little one is 7 months old already. I wish I could turn back time, they grow so fast.

We like to get the kids involved. Make a bunch of cupcakes and offer all kinds of toppings for the kids (or adults depending on how old the bday kid is) so they can make their own. I also do this with mini pizzas :)

We had an Elmo birthday party for my daughter’s first birthday. They sell these huge “scenes” that you stick on your wall or door that are life sized scenes of the characters playing. It was one of the biggest hits at the party! I also had bought some very cheap little coloring books and stamps, etc for the older kids to play with so that they weren’t bored :) Good luck with your party!

Thanks for the opportunity!

You could have special family members dress up as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowza! We are doing something similar for a b-day party here, only with LazyTown characters! Then Jayden can be Little Mario, you know before he eats the mushrooms? Then you could have mushroom decorated cupcakes. Also, Yoshi eats these wierd little apple things, so you could make green rice krispie treats and roll them into balls for a neat treat!

I think you should have the family over for a nice get together with food and a BIG cake. Invite the kids too, especially the ones around Jayden’s age. Then take lots and lots of pictures. Be sure to include yourselves and family but always with Jayden the center of attention. My daughter’s favorite picture is one of her at her 1st Birthday. She is trying to get at the cake with her FOOT. She doesn’t remember of course but she can she the glee on her own face.

clowns and gift bags!!

33 Kelly K April 15, 2009 at 1:25 pm

For my son’s first birthday, we had the family over for a cookout I bought my son a cute little Clifford the big red dog pool that had ring toss, basketball net and sprinkler built in.

He is going to be 9 this summer. My advice go small and simple. From kindgergarten-Second grade, the kids know what they want for a party and still invite the whole class which is expensive. Since my son is a summer bday he ended up having 3 birthday parties one year, a school party in May/June before school let out, a kiddies party and then cake with the family on his birthday. Crazy…

Atleast now in 3rd grade , its smaller just a few close friends.

34 Crystal F April 15, 2009 at 12:30 pm

We just had a big family bbq. It really worked out well and our daughter just got to run around outside having fun. Good luck and thank you!!

I think a jungle animal theme is fun. You can use stuffed animals and animal cutouts as decorations and leafy palm trees. Who doesn’t like wild animals?!?

38 chastidy April 14, 2009 at 10:54 pm

For my sons first birthday we had a circus theme. We had a clown come out and do face painting, balloons and a magic show. It was lots of fun.

I don’t think the ideas are too much at all; that’s what birthdays are all about. I’d even add a stuffed Mario for a present, and theme the cake Mario, as well. Whatever you do, I’m sure the party will be a blast!

For our little ones’ first birthdays we just had the family together for a little cookout and cake and ice cream. I didn’t do anything fancy because they wouldn’t really remember and they didn’t care. (I wanted to though, because themed b-days are so much fun! I just figured we could save our money and wait to do the themed b-days for when they are older.)

We really didn’t do a theme! We went to The party Store and Found a cute Theme that would be cute. We didn’t go all out, The plates and cups were this and then I had the cake made to match the theme, It was just a flower and butterfly theme… However she was only 1 last year, Now come May 9th she’ll be 2 and LOVES DORA. We’re doing a Dora theme in fact we were looking at the one on Birthdayexpress.com!! But other than that, It’ll just be Plates, napkins, Cups, a couple balloons and a cake that are Dora. We don’t go all out, besides they’re still young and don’t really know any better!! Hope I helped a little bit! Thanks

71 Elizabeth Y. April 13, 2009 at 2:08 am

I have a friend whose son went as Mario for Halloween, and it was adorable (especially the big mustache!). Too much? No way! It’s a way more creative idea than anything I could’ve come up with. My son’s 1st birthday was the standard cookout with boy colors, so nothing too unique!

The Mario theme is a really good idea. That is one of my favorite games. It would be so cool if you could have it set up at the party where you could play the original game on an old school nintendo. That will definitely bring back some memories. If I lived closer I would let you borrow mine :) Yep I have one that works!!

I have four kids, so I have plenty of parties under my belt. Simplicity is fine at Age 1, but for older kids, we like to have an activity for them. One of the most popular, we’ve found, is stringing Cheerios and Fruit Loops onto red string licorice, and making necklaces. The boys and girls both enjoy this. Have an activity or two for the odler kids at Jayden’s party.

Just make everything easy, you have plenty of years to go over the top, when Jayden will be able to fully appreciate your efforts!

93 Katrina April 11, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Personally I LOVE the theme you chose and if I had a boy instead of a girl I would choose it myself. I also LOVE the idea of dressing him up in a red shirt and overalls….so cute! For the adults I would just let them dress up the way the wanted to though. Mario bros is and always will be my favorite video game. I am smiling now as I write this thinking about when I would play for hours on end. Back to the question. Definitely keep it simple and maybe have a small cake just for him to put his hands into. It could be a mushroom or some other thing from the game. AS mom you could dress up as Princess Peach (which is also my dog’s name). THanks for the giveway, I could use this for my daughter’s first birthday.

94 Jennifer M April 11, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Keep it simple! They get really overwhelmed at that age!

95 susan varney April 11, 2009 at 11:36 am

97 Jennifer Short April 11, 2009 at 7:30 am

Take LOTS of pictures, and some tuck away for him to never see until he turns 18 — they will be all the more special for all of you when they haven’t been seen for so long — like a time capsule.

98 Elizabeth April 11, 2009 at 5:11 am

I <3 party planning!!!! (i cant wait for my son’s 1st b-day!) I love the idea!!! I’d like to expand upon it with personal cupcakes featuring a star, a mushroom, and the characters. also a sheet cake depicting snap shots from a mario level would be really cool!
instead of a goody bag, you can giveaway gold boxes with question marks on them, filled wit chocolate gold coins. and you can also give red and green hats to guests (glue or sew on a white circle and either a M or an L to each)
you can get a star pinata, and draw eyes on it (like the star in the game)

Rather than your son dressing up, i think you should have someone (Adult) dress up for the party and stay in character for an hour or two (my father was a red power ranger one year for my b-day and a ninja turtle the next we all loved it!)

also download the music from the game levels and play it during the party!
Hope this helps! and i hope jayden has a great b-day!!!

Well, I don’t think I had a theme for my 1st birthday. However… I remember I had 101 Dalmatians, Barney, and Winnie the Pooh all before 5. I think the mario theme is adorable and something he will look back upon and smile at. I wonder though if any family members truly have a Super Mario shirt? No one I know does! lol!
Either way, make sure you take tons of photos, because remembering how happy he is is what truly matters.
