Shop For A Better World: Macy’s Rwanda Path to Peace Initiative

I am excited to announce that I will be joining The BlogRollers and several other bloggers as an ambassador of the Macy’s Rwanda Path to Peace Project!

The Path to Peace project was created three years ago by Willa Shalit and her company Fair Winds Trading. Through this project, Shalit has created trade partnerships with artisans in recovering regions to bring the power of change to Rwanda and Indonesia. Shalit believes that women helping each other can change how Rwanda rebuilds its society, empowers women and sustains economic development beyond traditional development assistance.*

Trained by Fair Winds Trading, 250 urban women of Rwanda have created beautiful, hand-crafted jewelry inspired by knots, a symbol of the love and friendship they wish to extend to American women. The O Bracelet recently featured in O Magazine was worn and given away by The BlogRollers at the Type A Mom Conference last week. Each bracelet in this series is hand-made by two women; a weaver in Rwanda and a jewelry artist in New Orleans. These beautiful pieces of jewelry hold a powerful message. The message is all about partnership and the possibilities which occur when working together.*

How you spend your money can make a difference in this world. Through this partnership, women in Rwanda are now able to feed their families and send their children to school. By shopping at Macy’s, you are shopping for a better world.

To keep up with The Path to Peace project on Twitter, follow the hashtag #path2peace.

Some key people involved in this project that you may want to follow are:

Willa Shalit (@WillaShalit): Founder of Fair Winds Trading and Path to Peace

Sarah Evans (@prsarahevans): PR rep and part of our project team.

BeEverywhere News (@beeverywhere): PR firm and part of our project team.

Beth Schaeffer (@Bethnet): A Rwandan artisan/designer who will be following us on Twitter and participating in virtual events.

* There has been quite a bit of chaos going on in the mom blogosphere. I just want to pause for a moment to let those statements sink in. We’re in this together.

Thanks for this post! Absolutely agree with you that how we spend our money can make a difference in this world – and these products are making such a powerful difference all over the world! I’m also involved with the Path to Peace project and was really excited to add this post to the Path2Peace Facebook Fan Page – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Path2Peace/171294074622.
