Letting Go And Doing Less, Advice From Jada Pinkett Smith

Last Thursday, I grabbed O Magazine and inhaled Jada Pinkett Smith’s Aha! Moment. I realize I can have a giveaway every day of the week if I so chose. I don’t have to do it big on this blog for each and every season/holiday. I don’t have to go to every event I have an opportunity to attend. And I won’t let a missed opportunity eat me alive. I planned on having a series of giveaways to celebrate Boogie’s first birthday. I had planned months in advance, but I realized the best gift to him would be to get away from the computer this blog, get away from the stress. All I was going to be doing is creating another workload that I just don’t need right now. Although it has taken me longer than usual to get certain posts published, they are better late than rushed. This summer, I foresee traveling, family activities, and moving in to a new place. I need to chill out. Boogie is on his way to walking and he’s saying words. Before we know it, he’ll be running towards the schoolhouse, backpack and lunchbox in tow. When Fall rolls around, I do not want to look back and resent how I spent my summer. While blogging is my business, sometimes I have to let go and do less.

Sheena, I can certainly appreciate your feelings. I agree that you don’t want to look back and feel like you did not spend your time on what’s most important. Good for you :) I plan to do a lot of things that are family-related this Summer especially with Chardie going to high school and Brie going to 7th grade. I don’t ever want to get disconnected from the kids. BTW, Willie is finally walking and oh boy, the real work it kicking in! I sure do wish you well as always and I still want my Boogie updates!! ?

I really enjoyed reading the article and I agree, this is the best way to look at our lives and to take steps back to focus on what’s really important! This part of the article spoke volumes:

*** I felt that God was telling me, Surrender or explode. All of a sudden, I was released. The stress was gone, and in that stillness came the solution: The less I do, the better things will go. ***

Thanks Sheena for reminding all of us to focus on what’s really important and that’s family!!

Wow, yea, don’t let us get in the way of you and your beautiful family! Family first right? I’d love to be able to work at home someday to spend more time with my kids, but i imagine it could end up taking a lot of time away from them too if i let it.

Thanks for the post, and don’t feel bad if you don’t do tons of giveaways :)

I so can relate to what you are saying. I think that’s why I made it a rule that I will not do any work when I get off from work. I work outside the home and I do my blog stuff there too. When I get home, I spend it focusing on my family and being a mom, wife, and stepmom. It’s very important to enjoy the now. We can not get that back.
