Living Room Makeover: The Finished Product + $50 Giveaway!

ourbetterhomesgardensmakeover

Congrats to Cynthia C, she won $50 to fund a mini makeover in her home!

bhgwallsToday I am excited to share the finished product of our living room makeover sponsored by Better Homes And Gardens and Walmart. We were able to recover our budget by returning extra curtains, a large plant and pot, and 2 picture frames. This allowed me to purchase frames and supplies for the walls. Since we opted not to paint, I chose to get a little creative. I hung 3 collage frames side by side to create a mosaic of family photos on the larger wall. On the two smaller walls, I decided to make my own frames out of charger plates. Between my charger plate creations, I hung 2 pieces of art that we had laying around. I thought I was a little crazy for placing a circular mirror in a community of squares, but I wanted change. I wanted to be a little funky. I am happy to have found this picture after doing the walls. I feel more confident with my design choice.

wreathI dressed up the coffee table by nailing a table runner and charger plate in place. I topped the table with wire candle holders and a decorative box. To protect Boogie from dings, we’ve ordered some table corner guards. Our door looked a little naked after the makeover, so I splurged on a primitive twig wreath to compliment the design. It hasn’t arrived yet, so I edited the photo so you guys could get an idea of how the room would look with the wreath hanging there. Excluding the wreath and table guards, I spent about $520 which isn’t bad – is it?

We absolutely love our new living room. It definitely feels like home. Better Homes And Gardens and Walmart, we thank you!!

Remember when I asked you guys to tell me about the mini makeovers you’ve been dreaming about? Well it’s time to announce the winning commenter! Congrats to Amber who won $50 to go towards her bathroom makeover!

Amber said: My apartment is really small, several parts of it need upgrading. My main focus is the bathroom. The bathroom is nice actually, it’s spacious with a nice sink/counter and a big mirror that has a slightly vintage look. I would love to make my bathroom look like a pretty “powder room” like back in the old days. I’m think of covering the walls in a pretty wine wallpaper with gold embellished designs on it, and then paint the edges of the mirror in Gold to math. I am thinking of also getting cute little glass containers and filling them with cotton balls, another with loofah sponges, and possible another with beauty sponges. I am thinking of re-glazing the bathtub and possibly even adding a small footstool accent, that can be placed in the corner, with perhaps a nice potted plant. It’s a room that my guests will always see, whether they are just visiting for a few minutes or staying the night, so I’d really like the bathroom to be pretty!

I would like to give another reader a chance to win $50 to fund a mini makeover in their home! For a chance to win, visit bhg.com. Find an element of design or a room that inspires you. In the comments, tell me why it has inspired you! Feel free to provide the link in your comment as well!

The cheap and chic headboard project is one thing I’d like to do.
Also pastel bedding and drapery would be sweet.
The salvaged mantel is a great idea and also maybe a trellis decorated with faux plants for a headboard too.
Thanks for the chance to spruce up my bedroom.

The Beachy Neutrals page is inspiring me to use some paint to update my bathroom. Right now the walls are white and boring. I’m thinking of changing to a sage green or soft blue to add some interest without breaking the bank. Thanks for the chance.

The “Age-Old Beauty” Bedroom is one I can get on board with. I like things clean and almost guy-like but my husband like the frills, so I could see us compromising with that room. As of right now, Our bedroom is just a mattress and blankets. The joys of moving!

I like the Exotic Beauty Living room design because of all the warm tones and the fullness of ethnic style which I want to incorporate into my drab living space. I want it to be warm and welcoming for my family.

The Amish-style kitchen is stunning! My kitchen is so outdated, with awful apartment-style white cupboards (several with broken handles), and a very old, scratched-up wood floor. The room is dark and gloomy. How I would love to have an open and airy Amish-style kitchen like the one on the BHG website!

I too was drawn to the Age-Old Beauty bedroom, but for different reasons. It reminds me of a place we stayed while on vacation, and while I like a streamlined clutter-free look, my husband likes his collections and things, so it really is ideal for us.

My bathroom hasn’t seen new paint in over 20 years. Right now it’s an off-shade of tan with a yellow tinge. I’m dead-set on keeping my clawfoot bathtub but matching colors or even picking a main color is a lost art to me. I absolutely love the bathroom on the bhg site:
    http://www.bhg.com/home-improvement/bathroom/gallery/bathrooms-with-vintage-style/?page=3

I’d love to hide my old flawed walls with that bright blue tile which would be easier to keep clean than paint in our house. It also has a nautical feel which I love since I’ve dubbed my clawfoot tub “The Titanic”. I’d love to replace my towel racks and hangers with some wonderful white hangers and add some navy blue toothbrush and soap holders.

I’d like to turn my bathroom into a his and hers bathroom. Sharing the bathroom in the morning is no fun and this would speed things up and make it less stressful to the start of the day. There are four of us all sharing one bathroom and we all seem to need to get ready at the same time. Two kids brushing teeth in two separate sinks would be so wonderful~!I found a little inspiration at bhg.com here

Really inspires me. Right now our room is white, no furniture except our mattress and 1 dresser, we really need to find ways to ‘spruce it up’ so it’s more of an adult bedroom. The Calming Influence looks fairly easy as well as a space that says I’m an adult, this is mommy and daddy’s room. As parents we need a place where we can unwind and relax, this shows it best.
