New Year, New Goals!

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2009! It’s a new year, so it’s time to set new goals and ACCOMPLISH THEM! But for now it’s all about sharing! Here’s some of mine.

1. Gain weight – I’ve always has a small frame but it really didn’t start getting to me until junior high. I consider myself the runt of the family. All of my cousins are bursting with bacon. Not me. It has always been terribly hard for me to gain weight and it has become worse breastfeeding. I weigh less than my pre-pregnancy weight and that is just not sitting well with me at all. I feel like I lack in the authority department because I don’t look like an adult. I have a lot of anger built up inside from the numerous times I’ve been called tiny, skinny, etc. Or how the nurse said Oh my gosh after weighing me during my post-partum exam. *grumble* It’s just something I won’t be able to get over no matter how many times Greg tells how beautiful I am. I know that I am. but I. am. just. not. happy. I don’t feel I look healthy. I need to gain at least 20lbs.

2. Work out – I’ve been so against working out because I’m afraid of losing weight. I realize that as I get older, I’m going to need to exercise if I expect to live a long and adventurous life. One thing that disappoints me is not being able to wear Boogie regularly. He’s so heavy, I can barely hold him. Without Greg, I don’t know what I’d do. I have to work out.

3. Spend more time grooming – So this showering every other day (sometimes 2) is not cool at all (keeping in mind that I’m a new mom and not a nasty slob). I feel so revitalized when I get a shower. I never knew I could appreciate taking a shower so much. I need to spend more time soaking in the tub and giving myself pedicures. I also would like to get my eyebrows waxed more often too. An arched eyebrow makes me look older, in a mature kind of way.

4. Cook more, launch recipe blog – I feel a sense of relaxation when I’m cooking. It’s like art to me. I have a recipe blog that is full of potential if only I start cooking more.

5. Live a more natural life – This doesn’t mean go full blown “green”, but living a more natural lifestyle is something that I am passionate about even if I don’t preach it often. I’m going to stop putting this on the back burner.

6. Spend less time on computer, more time with family – I’ve spent way too much time on things online that are just not worth my time. Time spent on the computer is limited as it is so I need to use every second of my computer time to my advantage. Working at home requires constant checking of emails, writing, clicking, etc. If I’m not on the computer, I’m on my smartphone. It’s hard to get away when you are trying to make some extra money for your family and spend time with them too. I think all of the hard work has finally paid off. I’ve been blogging for over 7 years and trying to find “wealth” online for just as long. I’ve found many outlets and I see plenty more in the future. I can actually breathe easy while taking a break when needed.

7. Stick to routine – All of my goals haven’t been met because I can’t follow a routine. This actually should be #1!

I’m pretty sure there’s more to this list but if I write any more, I’ll be going against #6!

I hope your family has a super 2009! I just linked up a post I just did. It’s kinda random but does touch upon my main priority in 2009.

    Happy new years!

About your #1: Somewhat recently I am in the category with having to worry about gaining and maintaining my weight (stupid GI tract hates me, my metabolism allows me to gain if not for that). Doc sent me to a dietitian who gave me a trick in the form of ensure, when I need to gain or maintain when in a position where eating is not enough (I forget to when busy) or undesired (eating can make me feel sick and I do not eat much when I am sick) I drink the stuff. For gaining I go with the 350 calorie kind and for maintaining 250 is usually enough. I’ve only tried chocolate flavors, they are not that good (to me, my niece stole one and LOVES the nasty stuff, weird kid) but keep me where I need to be, my friend says the other flavors are better but I am a very picky person.

About #2: Muscle weighs more than fat and so you will probably gain weight if you exercise, it is pretty common for most people and definitely for someone who is either underweight or bordering on underweight to begin with (not like there is much fat to lose in a small person, I am a younger looking, small framed 5’1.5″ person so I feel your pain with the respect issues!). I think that exercise helps balance out a person’s metabolism and such as well so who knows it could possibly help you put on weight in general and not just in muscles. And in reality exercise is not actually as important as diet in weight loss, my biochem prof did the math and one is way better off cutting calories than running a bunch of miles, exercise is more about being healthy overall I think, very important for people of all weights.

Hope that semi-advice wasn’t too unsolicited, so much of my current life tends to revolve around weight, diet and exercise and I like to be helpful (to a fault), let me know if I am being annoying and I’ll refrain in the future. If not then hope it helps, us scrawny people have to stick together! Few years ago I visited an old high school teacher of mine and one of his students mistook me for a high school freshman, I was a college senior, lol.

You GO Mommy! These are all great resolutions if they make you HAPPIER. That is my goal–to just make sure that I don’t take any of our family’s blessings for granted, and that we enjoy each day to the fullest. I wish the same for you, Greg, and Jaden!

    Happy New Year!

I totally hear ya regarding #1. I’m the same way. I think I weigh a little less than I did pre-pregnancy. I lost all the pregnancy weight SO QUICKLY — within a month! It’s crazy, y’know? I hear ya regarding being thin and not being taken seriously. I had to deal with that a lot, especially now since I’m a family therapist and I have to go to court and represent my clients and stuff like that. We thinner ones who look younger have to work harder to build our authority. Good luck with that. :) I am hoping to gain some weight in the new year too!

  5. Shannon says:

Sounds like some good goals! Hope you have a good year and I look forward to your posts :)

I am for your #1 all the way. It’s me down to a tee!

I just want some meat on my bones and I do have to start excercising and I am/was afraid of exercising because I don’t want to lose weight.

Mommy you are so pretty. Almost 6 years ago I wore a size 0 and 5 kids later..well let’s just keep it at 5 kids later (with twins on the way) My hubby still tells me I am beautiful.

I am so with you on the workout part, because as soon as the twins are born and everything checks out with my Dr. this mocha girl will be on her way to the gym.

Ok, first of, let me say that you had me at your banner photo! Jr. High Sweethearts? What a blessing! I’m married to one of my best friends since High school, and the foundation as friends really is the engine of our marriage. Anyhoo, love the goals! I’m especially feeling the one about living a more natural life, I’ll keep you in my thoughts as we attain that goal! All the best to you, Gregory, and Boogie in 2009 & beyond!

  12. First of all, I love the new layout, it’s gorgeous. Second of all, good luck with all of your resolutions; I hardly hear about a woman wanting to gain weight, but I wish you the best of luck with it!

  13. Stephanie says:

Your first goal caught me a bit off-guard. I think you fall into the 1% of women that would write that. :)

I’m “with you” on #2, #5, and #6 – those are “on my list” too.

    Happy New Year!

I have a similar problem…my coworkers think I don’t eat and my doctors tell me I’m underweight. I eat, believe me…I LOVE to eat, but I have a hard time putting on weight. I’m 5-6 and about 117 pounds. I know how you feel.

  15. Joanna says:

We have some very similar goals for 2009! I wish that my worry was gaining weight though, LOL I am losing weight! But we’re working on it in the same ways by improving our overall health. I wish you the best of luck, and if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know!

  16. I love your new look! Great post…I have met several women who are trying to gain weight lately…very interesting. We do have on thing in common, though. I also don’t look much like an adult (even though it’s not because I am too thin, believe me). I have a very youthful face and I am short and I don’t dress up very often (read: I wear jeans/sweats and sneakers daily), so people frequently think I am a kid. Worse, because I am a SAHM, they think I am a teen mom when they see me out during the day with my kids. Very frustrating, especially when it leads to terrible customer service.
Also…I understand about the 3x a week shower! LOL!!! It gets better.
Thanks for the Twitter follow….I’ll be back soon!

  17. Giving you some comment love (per your twitter request – LOL). Rest assured you are not at all boring! I didnt post my goals on my blog but I did put my proudest blog moments!

  18. On “Doing What Daddies Do” Great post! Who is he and what planet did he come from, lol! :)

Good luck on your goals. I think it’s weird that all my life wants to do is lose weight and all you want to do is gain it. Are women never happy with their bodies?
