I have a couple of questions for those of you who are parents: Approximately how many pictures and/or videos of your children do you have saved on your computer?
Now, once you have come up with an answer for that question, answer this one: How many of those pictures or videos do you have duplicates of that are not on that same computer?
The reason I ask is because I think it’s so crazy how much technology has evolved and how computers are used for practically everything now. The other day I was thinking about how we haven’t even started on the baby books for Boogie yet, although he is now 7 months old. We have been keeping track of all of his milestones on our computers through picture files, video files, and text files. In this day and age, “virtual” baby books have become more popular than the traditional physical baby books. But one thing we have to keep in mind is that computers aren’t perfect. They can catch viruses. They can get damaged. They can get stolen. And before you have your doubts about using a computer to store all of your precious memories, the same applies for physical baby books also. They, too, can get lost, stolen, or damaged. Either way it goes, everything is gone. Everything.
So after thinking all of this through (which I actually should’ve done long ago), I decided that it was time to back up the hard drives on our computers so that in the event that something happens to one of our computers, we won’t lose everything that was on it. It’s better to be safe than sorry. So we got into contact with the generous folks over at Storage Appliance Corporation, who specialize in backup and storage devices, and they sent us a Clickfree Portable Backup 160GB External Hard Drive
After plugging in the Clickfree hard drive via USB cable, I found out exactly why it is called “Clickfree”; because you literally don’t have to click anything at all in order for it to do its job. As soon as you plug it in, it runs on its own. You don’t have to install any programs or anything. Once it starts running, it’ll begin to count down to let you know that it will start backing up all of your files. Once the backup progress begins, that’s it. Just let it do its job. The amount of time it takes to backup your files depends on how many files you have on your computer. You can just let it run in the background while you complete other tasks on the computer. And it won’t slow down your computer either. It only used 15MB of RAM while it was running for me.
Once the backup is complete, you can browse and search through the files that were backed up. And that’s it. You can unplug the hard drive until you’re ready to back up again. For each subsequent backup after the first, only new and modified files will be backed up. So unless you go on a file creating frenzy, or you don’t back up again for the next two years, the next backup should take only a few minutes. Whenever you want to access files that you have previously backed up, simply plug in the Clickfree hard drive, click on “Options”, then click on the “Restore” tab.
You can also use the Clickfree Hard Drive to store files so that they don’t eat up the hard drive space on your computer. This is perfect for those who use laptops, and/or have massive music and video collections. I have approx. a couple hundred photos and videos. And I back up my hard drive but am not totally sure that the files are actually saved – I use apple online backup. I could really use an external hard drive. Especially since my first hard drive with this machine died and I lost some photos.

I have about 4,000 pics and videos just of my son’s first 9 months. I don’t have a lot of duplicates because I tend to use one computer.
Ok wow. I could SO use this right now. I have THOUSANDS of photos/videos on my computer right now. My laptop got fried a year ago and I lost pictures – which is when I invested in an external hard drive. Well, then THAT went kaput right before our move this summer for no known reason. Until then we did have photos in multiple places, but now I have no choice but to keep them all on my computer. I was actually hoping to get a replacement external hard drive today (Black Friday) but didn’t. Boy oh BOY could I use this. I’ve lost way too many photos in the past year to go without any longer!

We have hundreds and hundreds. DH asked what I wanted for Christmas and I told him, “All of the kids pics put onto CD’s!” We have some of the more recent ones backed up after learning the hard way when our old computer went down. Some of the pics should still be salvageable, but it looks as if about 20% of them are lost forever. DH would kiss your feet if I won this, it would make his Christmas job so much easier. He didn’t believe I was serious at first, I had to repeat my request!

I have a thousands of Chloe’s photos in my PC. Usually my husband will do a backup once a while by copying the photos to his laptop manually. Surely you don’t want to lose the precious moment after your PC crashed. With Clickfree harddrive, I don’t think I will have any worry about crashing computer anymore.

More than 6 gigs of pictures on the main computer, with backups on a portable, but permanently attached external hard drive.
I always backup pictures.
It doesn’t say if it’s Mac-compatible… I have about 2500 pictures and none backed up. Gotta do that!
My family has literally 1000s of pictures and many of them are duplicates on the same computer but different user. We have 5 people in our household and being a mother…I take TONS of pictures. I’ve feared so much lately that our computer is going to go out because it’s already giving us warning signs…anyways, I fear losing everything I have so a clickfree hard drive would surly do the trick for us!!!!

I have an entire external hard drive already filled with pictures. I backed up all that I had on my computer. Now it’s full and I’m working on about 4 months worth of pics (which is roughly 1500 pictures) that are on my computer! Oh my! I really need this. My burner doesn’t work on my desk top so I have to move things back and forth, 1 gig at a time, between the desk top and lap top just so I can burn and back things up. An external is on my “wish list” this year.

Approximately how many pictures and/or videos of your children do you have saved on your computer? Too many to count!!! I am a freelance photographer, not to mention of course I love taking pictures of my family. I must have hundreds on my computer!
How many of those pictures or videos do you have duplicates of that are not on that same computer? Hardly any. I try and get some things backed up and some things on my lap top but my USB drive is only 1 gig so it takes forever and a day to get it done. I have about 125 gig worth of stuff I need to back up. So you can see why I really need an external.

*Raises hand* Guilty as charged: I have more than 1000 photos and more than 4500 songs on my mac, dating back to 2004, and not nary one is backed up ANYWHERE. I rue the day when my computer gives up the ghost and I lose those doggone files… I SHOULD know better, seeing as I’m a writer and my computer is MY LIFE. I JUST lost three years worth of files on my laptop when my computer crashed (I made a movie for my in-laws and it ate every bit of memory, killing my documents files–ARGH! I never realized how many I actually had until you asked “how many pictures or video’s do you have of your children on your PC?” I currently have 769 pictures and only 9 video’s ( I just recently started using a flip video camera ) and I’m sure my video’s will increase rapidly now. I was actually surprised at how many I actually had on my PC. To answer your second question “NONE” are backed up. Not smart I know but I haven’t figured out how to back them up yet but the “clickfree portable Backup 160GB external hard drive sounds simple to use and I sure could use it for sure. I’m not a parent so my answer to both would be 0. But I know what it’s like to lose a lot of files/photos of family and friends because I didn’t have backup.
Our computer’s video card died recently so I know how valuable this is! I have saved the hard drive hoping someone will be able to help me get all the photos off. All the pictures of my son from when he was born until now are on there. There are hundreds! After this happened I told my husband we’re getting an external drive. I SO hope I win!

Well I did a little investigation and I’d say I have about 5Gigs of videos (thats a bout 10 or so) and uhmm 2,000 photos which is another 2-3 gigs or maybe more! yikes My computers been acting a little messed lately I’ve been putting off doing a fresh install because of all the back up troubles.(these are the times a mac is soo desirable!). We have at least 500 photos and maybe just 10 videos stored on our computer, and probably less than half of these are backed up. This is a great reminder that I need to do just that!

i take so many picture. just in 2006 i have saved, average 52 folders of average 30 photos in each folders, same goes in 2007, 2008 and i plan to do the same in the years ahead. i keep the photos on different locations and backthem up whenever i remember to do so also on different locations like hubbies computer. i havebeen planning on organizing them, an external hard drive will be best for that task!

I don’t have any little ones, but I do have hundreds and hundreds of photos and videos. Luckily, my boyfriend made copies of the photos onto my laptop as well, but we don’t have everything saved and even more importantly, all my other files – writing, documents – are only on one system, which makes me very nervous. We actually plan on purchasing one of these anyway, so it would be simply awesome to win one!!
When I last checked, I had over a 1,000 pictures on my hard -drive. I do back up my pictures once every so often on CD’s and USB cords. Currently 3 USB cords holds most of my collection so this giveaway is perfect. Count me in!

I have too many pics and videos on my computer to count! thousands at least! We had a scare a while back with a virus- luckily everything was recovered and I STILL have not backed everything up!
And worse…I don’t have copies of most of the pics and videos anywhere else!

OMG! Let me just tell you that I have a 500GB external hard drive and a 250GB external hard drive and a 250GB hard drive in my computer and the two external ones are full. I LOVE to take pictures of my kids and videos. I also back them up onto dvd’s. I’m obsessed I know, I have over 5,000 pictures of my 2 month old. Pictures are my weakness.

I have 2 teens with music, pictures, research papers, essays, then I have from all of us pictures. My son who lives 1200 miles away just had his first child the only pictures I have are of the day he was born and the first week that my other daughter sent by email to me. I have had my last pc crash and we lost everything. So everytime my kids use pc I pray that nothing happens. I also know somewhat about pc’s but don’t want triples of everything to blog down my pc. I only have about 150 now because last June there was a computer-cide at my house. After acting suspiciously for a few weeks before, one sunny day in June, Windows took its own life and I lost everything on my hard drive. Pictures, iTunes, genealogy research…all lost except for a very old backup I had on a million cd’s.
In answer to your second question, there were no duplicates of the pictures. Those were lost and I mourn the loss daily.

I have over a thousand pictures of my daughters on my wife’s laptop. Every so often I take those pictures and transfer to another computer as backup, but I actually have not done that in the past 6 months. So probably a few hundred pictures are not backed up yet.

We have more than a thousand (can’t even guess exactly how many) of our daughter and son on the main computer. On other sources, there are
probably one hundred – this prize would be great to make a backup of everything.
I would say that I have about 2000 large format files. I have a current 40GB external hard drive that I’ve just about maxed out if you factor in the video files. So far everything important has a duplicate, but I won’t be able to keep that up if I don’t update my hardware.

I have hundreds of photos of my family on my computer and very few that I have a hard copy of. Would love to have an external hard drive to put them all on.
I have all of my digital photos, thousands of my kids on my computer. I have prints of every one and discs of them. I am so worried of losing them and would love a back up to store off site in a safety deposit box.
I don’t even know how many. It’s a lot and I don’t think I’ve backed up my photos in a while. I’d be devestated if I lost them all. I think tomorrow I’ll be making some discs. My brother is always saying we should store the extra discs somewhere other than the house that way they won’t get ruined if anything happens.

i have about 300 on my computer. about 200 have been moved to flikr, but about the other 100 have not been posted to flikr, so i need this back-up tech thingie!
My daughter is only 8 months old and we probably have around 850+ photos of her and video of when she was first born. I only have duplicates of about a quarter of them.
I’d say I have well over 1000 photos and video of my kids on my computer, and maybe 2/3 of the photos are backed up, but none of the video yet!! I know, thinking of losing any of it makes me want to cry!! I’d better get to backing it up, just in case I dont win! =)

Oh my, I’ve quite a few pictures saved on this laptop, along with plenty of research documents (as I’m a student), and unfortunately, I’ve backed them up nowhere. Seems every place I want to save them isn’t quite what I’m looking for. I don’t want to have to go through and upload every single picture, as I’m a photographer too.
