Monday Mentions

Life as a parent can be very busy and hectic. We know it’s nothing short of busy and hectic for us. This leads to things that we’d like to do not getting done. Just about every day we discover something new, whether it be a website, blog, or event, that we’d like to share here on Mommy Daddy Blog. But, the problem is that we very seldom can find the time to post about them with a million other things going on throughout each day.

So what we’ve decided to do is create a new series that we’re going to call Monday Mentions. Every Monday we’ll post a Monday Mentions, where we will share interesting and fun things that we’ve discovered over the preceding week. We’re hoping to benefit everyone involved by doing this. We get to share interesting websites, you all get to discover new websites, and the websites included in each Monday Mentions get the word spread about them.

So we hope you all enjoy our first edition of Monday Mentions below! Be sure to let us know in comments what you think!

One A Day Wake-Up Call

Ellen DeGeneres, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, recorded a series of phone messages that amount to an urgent wake-up call for women: Help yourself fight breast cancer! The messages, which can be sent by going to oneaday.varitalk.com, are intended to nudge women to take steps to check for the disease that is the second-most lethal kind of cancer in women after lung cancers.

Baveo

How YOU Can Enter:
1. Share an original grilling recipe that incorporates a Crisco Cooking Spray (Original, Butter or Olive Oil)
2. Provide an image of the recipe
3. Include a brief essay, 250 words or less, explaining why you created the recipe and why you should be inducted into the Crisco Grilling Hall of Fame

Grow A Mo For Movember

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a charity event held during November each year. At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their Mo (Australian slang for moustache), raising money and awareness along the way for men’s health and the fight against prostate cancer.

Movember is very proud to be teaming with the Prostate Cancer Foundation in the US. All donations made will go directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, which will use the funds for high-impact research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

Pillsbury® Campaign for a Sweeter America

This season there has been a sweet debate taking place online and in kitchens across the country. Pillsbury® asked Americans to cast votes for their favorite dessert – cake or brownies and brownies were declared America’s Favorite Dessert in the Pillsbury® Campaign for a Sweeter America. After a national campaign tour with the Pillsbury Doughboy® and an online election, it was Brownies’ undeniable richness that won the hearts (and stomachs) of the nation’s voters.

To celebrate Brownies’ victory, the makers of Pillsbury baking products want to hear how people make things sweeter with their favorite desserts at pillsburybaking.com/campaign. The sweetest entry will receive a kitchen makeover worth $5,000, and Pillsbury will also make a donation to Feeding America to help end hunger in this country.

Graco Ready. Safe. Go! Car Seat Club

The Graco Ready. Safe. Go! Car Seat Club gives its members access to car seat resources, special partner offers, and e-mail updates. The best part about the club is that for every 10 people that join the club 1 car seat will be donated to organizations helping families in need. The holiday season has always been a time to help others and just by joining, you’re able to help organizations distribute donated car seats to families who aren’t able to buy one for themselves.

NogginPower2

NogginPower2 is a company dedicated to helping parents build happier families. NogginPower2 has a number of Mini-Manuals that take an in-depth and straight forward approach to helping parents deal with issues that arise for today’s families, with topics ranging from preventing drug abuse to helping children get good grades to proper discipline.

Keep A Breast

SocialVibe is helping raise awareness for breast cancer by partnering with The Keep A Breast Foundation, a non-profit organization that creates plaster forms of the female torso which are customized by artists. You can also use your online presence to support the cause without giving any money, simply by signing up for SocialVibe in support of The Keep A Breast Foundation. Please view the SocialVibe video to get a better sense of how the site works. To sign up in support of The Keep A Breast Foundation please visit this link.

SocialVibe has also created a community-generated video in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It shows that women of all ages are affected by breast cancer and encourages younger people to get involved and help find a cure. The video can be viewed here.

All She/He Needs Is Love

As the Beatles said (and sang), and over at Nine Moons they agree, ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE! At Nine Moons they know that mothers love to show off their growing belly and include everyone on the upcoming sex of her baby! So they are very proud to launch their new All She/He Needs Is Love maternity line!
