So we’ve been kind of slacking on the Jayden updates. We know. We’re sorry. We’ve been taking tons of pictures, but have taken our sweet old time getting them uploaded. And what’s an update on our Little Man without pictures? Well we’ve finally gotten them some uploaded and would like to share them, along with everything he’s been up to, with all of you!
Stranded.
To start things off, we spent last week visiting our parents in Chicago and ended up getting “stranded”. Any of you who live in the Chicagoland area know what a disaster last week/weekend was. We had two straight days of nothing but rain. Then we were hit with the remnants of Hurricane Ike which added another whole day of rain. Major expressways were closed down for days because of flooding, including two in which we use to get back home. This resulted in many roads throughout the area becoming seriously congested fast. So we decided we’d stay in Chicago until they reopened the expressways. After three days had passed, the expressways were still closed, so we decided to just go ahead and bear it out on the roadways. It took us almost three times as long to get back home. On top of that, we found out that they had just reopened the expressways right when we walked in the door!
Here are some pictures we managed to get of the floods in our area…
Remember this was in CHICAGO, over 1,000 miles away from where Hurricane Ike in the Gulf. So just imagine what it was like down there. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those that were affected by Ike. Hurricanes suck.
Guess who’s getting bigger?
Jayden had a doctor’s appointment last Thursday and he checked out wonderful! He currently weighs in at 15lbs. 6.5oz. and is 25in. tall! Our Little Man is getting BIG thanks to mama’s milk! Speaking of which, we’ve started to let him cheat on his diet, but we’ll get on more of this later!
His cradle crunchies (Mommy’s term for cradle cap. Jayden’s auntie calls it cradle crap!) are much better but the doctor said to treat the rest with mineral oil, rub with a brush, then wash it out. We’re going to substitute mineral oil with shea butter oil. Since we ran out of natural baby butter, Jay had an eczema flare up. It would happen when he had an appointment. Anything to make us look like horrible parents. The doctor prescribed 1% hydrocortisone. She recommended 2.5% but since we’re in between doctors, she wants our next doctor to prescribe the higher dose so that he/she can monitor it. Per Mommy’s orders, we’re going to stick with natural baby butter. We told her how well it worked, but we just ran out. She also prescribed an antibiotic cream for his rosy cheeks and recommended he have an allergy test done. We try to use the mildest of products, but the culprit of Jayden’s flareups could be something we’re overlooking, or it could be something Mommy’s eating. We can’t wait until we get the test done so we can get to the bottom of the problem. His skin’s looking better, so we haven’t used any of the creams. Jaymi whipped us up a batch of Bee Good To Your Baby Butter and we are loving it. Oh and we can’t forget about the Shea Radiance Baby Butter that we were using previously. Both products work wonders on his baby rolls!
Still wet, gummy smiles!
He’s still a drool machine but no teeth yet! He puts everything and everyone in his mouth! Humphreys teething pellets, pure vanilla extract, Razbaby teethers, wubbanubs, and washcloths have been managing to keep him happy!

Backyard Boogie!
Now that Fall has begun, we’re trying to enjoy the warm weather as much as we can before it starts to cool down. We spent some time out in Daddy’s mother’s backyard last week and snapped many pictures of Jayden. We originally took some in the sun and hated how they turned out. Jayden’s face was all orange and there were shadows everywhere. So we relocated to a shady spot and they turned out wonderful!
As you can see, he absolutely loves being on his tummy! He still hasn’t started crawling yet, but he rolls over like nobody’s business! We had him laid out on his stomach on his activity gym yesterday and he wouldn’t stay put for five seconds before rolling over onto his back and giggling!
“Hmm so these things are good for something besides kicking Daddy!”
He’s also not too fond of being propped up. He loves to stand and giggles like crazy every time we do stand him up!
So we are currently planning to buy an ExerSaucer, or something of the like, to satisfy his need to stand up!
We let him cheat on his diet!
On the 11th our Little Man had his very first solids, carrots, and he absolutely loved them! Check him out grubbin’ down:
We also have a video taken that day of him eating the carrots and we’ll try to get it uploaded soon! Since then he’s also had bananas and rice cereal. He wasn’t too fond of the cereal, as we figured when he gave us the “This crap is nasty!” look when we tried to feed it to him! Other than that, he seems to be enjoying solids!
Simply enjoying life!
Daddy is loving life as a father, Mommy is loving life as a mother, and as you can see, Jayden is just loving life period! Being a family is beautiful, and we’re enjoying every aspect of it!

Skyrocket your sales!

I am so glad to see everyone doing so well. Jayden is getting so big! I love the backyard photos! He sure looks happy on his tummy. Will finally got comfy on his tummy and rolls over now.
What craziness about being stranded. I know all too well how Hurricanes do suck! Glad you all are back safe & sound. Oh and I LOVE the baby food shots! He is not cheating on his diet. Veggies are good for him! Wait til he learns how to spit them all over daddy (notice I said daddy) LOL! You all take care of each other.

Awww he is getting so big!! I can not believe how much water Chicago got. I just love the little pacifer he has that looks like berries. I have to get my little niece one whose name is also Jayden. Thanks for catching us up.

What adorable pictures! (of Jayden, not the flood
He is absolutely perfect. I highly recommend an activity center - my son loved his. I used to joke that he was so serious when he got in it that he should have been clocking in and out like he was at work. Must.play.with.every.toy. Very cute.

Jayden is adorable. Isn’t it wonderful to think your family started b/c two people fell in love! Life is magical!!
On a side note hope things are drying up from the flood.

So I can blame you guys for bringing the flooding here to Chicago! LOL

Holy moly! I would’ve never thought that you would get so much rain from a hurricane a thousand miles away! Glad to see that you all are well. Jayden is too cute for his own good! I love the 2nd picture of him laying in the grass. He looks like he’s saying “Are you serious, dude?” LOL.

Oh, and this is completely random, but while looking for bath & body goods online, I came across this: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=cat2_galley_18&listing_id=15535752 Since you are the only mommy (with a baby) that I know who likes to try out new products, I thought you’d get a laugh from it

He is so precious. I love the outdoor pictures. Please, make sure you enjoy this time. They grow up so fast.

He is still as gorgeous as ever. That flooding looks absolutely crazy. I understand why you were stranded. On he eating tip -If he doesn’t like the cereal alone mix it with something that he does like. Usually the cereal is fortified with iron which he needs, bf’ing alone doesn’t give it to him. If you mix it he will be none the wiser.

Sheliza - You are always against me, aren’t you?
Don’t worry, he’s gotten me way more times than I count!
Keisha - He had a big Koolaid smile on his face the whole time we fed him the carrots. It was like he was thinking “Yes, finally a break from breastmilk!”
1StopMom - He loves that Razbaby teether and it works wonders with soothing him when he’s teething. We definitely recommend it!
Lindsay Lebresco - That’s exactly how Jayden is! Every time we lay him down in his activity gym, he can’t resist getting his hands all of the toys surrounding him! He loves it!
Quiskaeya - Thanks Ana! He’s definitely keeping us on our toes!
Alicia - Thanks! The faces he made when he ate the rice cereal were priceless! I wish we would’ve gotten a picture.
Flip Flop Mamma - No problem, Jaymi! We’re actually almost out already. Sheena can’t help but to butter his rolls 10 times a day! So look forward to us coming over soon to pick up some more!
Florida Bus Dealer - Life certainly is magical! And Jayden is such a blessing to us!
Kim - That’s because he gets all his cuteness from his Daddy of course!
Yolanda - The solid foods have become very good friends with his diapers too. Not pretty at all. I’m starting to miss his breastmilk poos!
Sky - I can’t get enough of that smile either, I love it! And like I was telling 1StopMom above, he LOVES his Razbaby teether! It works miracles with his teething.
Tricia - We came across that shop some months ago. The names of their products are hilarous, especially that Bad Ass Booty Balm!
Kristina Brooke - They certainly do. He just made FIVE months a couple of days ago and it still seems like he was just born. Where did the time go? We’re definitely making sure we enjoy every single second we can of our Little Man!
Renee - That’s the thing! We mixed the cereal with breast milk to warm him up to it and he still didn’t like it at all! It had to be the taste of the cereal because he LOVES breastmilk (of course!). We’re going to try it again to see if we get the same results. Maybe we just caught him on a bad day.

I love all the photos! The ones in the grass turned out really well. And if you are anything like me, you’ll take TONS of photos of Jayden covered in food, I could never help myself

He is just to dang cute!! And that smile!!!
Karen wrote 03 Oct at 6:22 pm
Oh how adorable is he!? Niecey would not eat rice cereal without fruit mixed in, plain cereal is not very appetizing I guess.
I heard Chicago got hit with a lot of rain but didn’t hear that it got THAT bad! Glad it didn’t hit here too bad, Iowa is still recovering from the flooding from before, it is all dried up but the damage left behind will take time and cost millions to repair, and many farmers lost their crops.
Has he stopped scratching himself so much, I notice he isn’t wearing socks on his hands in the pics? Seems weird to see his cute little hands being used to seeing him rocking the socks look, no matter what he sports he is gorgeous!
