We Made It Through The Move!

by MommyandDaddy on August 14, 2008

in Giveaways, Life

We aren’t fully unpacked yet, but we MADE IT through the move! We thought it would NEVER end! Originally, we were supposed to move August 1st, but we weren’t ready. We ended up hitting the road with MOST of our stuff on the 6th. Before we hit the road, we were sure something would go wrong. We prepared for the worse. Why? Because nothing is ever easy when we do things. We must always leap hurdles and fall into manholes to get from point A to B.

August 6th: We made it on time to get our keys. Our landlord was really nice. She stayed after office hours so we could move in. She gave us a welcome bag of swag (something we are definitely NOT used to); a roll of toilet paper, a roll of paper towels, a set of cutting knives, a stationary set for the fridge, and books with business listings. Flip Flop Mamma stopped by with her husband and adorable kids bearing pasta and fresh baked bread! Daddy was too tired to even think about lifting anything so we planned to move everything in the next day. We stayed with his mother for the night.

August 7th: We had the hardest time trying to get out of his mother’s house to finally move in (life with an adorable new baby). Boogie was throwing all kinds of fits. He’s teething, perfect timing! It was a mess. The kids next door helped bring stuff in. It was sweet of them. They are a bit on the nosey side, hopefully that will pass.

The move was very stressful, but we got through it. We will NOT be moving any time soon unless we absolutely HAVE to or if we stumble upon a fortune. As stated before, we prepared for the worse, but nothing too terrible happened. We ended up having to pay extra for the UHAUL because we kept it an extra day and went over the mileage. Then there was the time when we tried to put more gas in it and our PayPal debit had been frozen. We had to leave our mattress (we’re currently sleeping on an air bed), tv armoire, and mini fridge because they wouldn’t fit. Coming back for the stuff was beyond OUT of the question since we are 6 hours away. We’re also out of 4 dinner plates, but these things are a walk in the park compared to drama in the past.

But with the bad comes the good. Mommy has some awesome mommies to hang out with now that we no longer live in the middle of nowhere. She can’t wait to meet (Ashlee) them (Steph) and the other mommies who she doesn’t know of yet who may have blogs as well! She is nervous as she will be the youngest in the bunch, so she will be like a kitty getting used to a new home.

In other news, we think we owe Sarah Buki, Victoria Lynch, Kelli, Naomi, Kimberly V., and Meg some prizes since they are the winners of the Seeing The Everyday: Finding Poetry In The Prosaic Giveaway! A subscription of Seeing The Everyday magazine (4 magazines total) and an Orville Redenbacher popcorn sample kit with bowl will go to Sarah Buki and Victoria Lynch. Two packs of popcorn samples with coupons will go to Kelli, Naomi, Kimberly V., and Meg! Congratulations ladies! And thanks to all who entered the giveaway! Everyone gave some really great answers! Be sure to add Seeing The Everyday to your list of reads!

There will be more guest posts, reviews, giveaways, and of course updates on Boogie ahead. Guest posts will be spaced out as we want them to receive a fair showtime. If we told you that your guest post was scheduled to go up on a certain date and it didn’t, that’s why.

Thanks to our friends who sent us emails, tweets, comments, and texts during the move! Oh, and we’re on Utterz so now we can record and post Boogie’s infant babble faster than using a video camera!

I am so glad you guys are finally moved in! Of course there are always going to be bumps in the road along the way. That is always the case it seems! I know you will be happy to have a normal life again. I’m sorry you had to leave some things behind but I am sure you will get those things again. As long as you all made it safely that is all that counts. That is very cool that you will have some new moms to hang out with. Don’t sweat it that you are the youngster of the bunch. I have been there, you will be fine. I always forget how much younger you are than I am!

I love the “we have moved” announcements. I think that is usually the best bet and the method I have used in the past. Let’s hope it will be the last announcement you send out for a long while! :) Glad you guys are back.

YAAAYYY!! Sounds great! I’m happy that ya’ll have good neighbors! That’s really sweet of them to bring over the pasta and for the kids to help ya’ll move in! That’s really good. And the landlord was really sweet too to give a goodie bag. I hope you have a wonderful life in your new place and please Sheena, post new pictures of your new hair!! I’ve been dying to see it!!!

Hopefully, two comments don’t come up. The last one didn’t go through for some reason.
Congrats on the big move! I know it can get a little tricky when you have a baby to deal with as well, so I’m glad that he faired well.

So nice that you got a warm welcome from a bloggy friend. Have fun getting to know your other bloggy friends. How cool is that!

As for letting people know you’ve moved, I’d send them a picture of his adorableness! You know your family and friends can’t get enough cute pic of the baby. :)

Congratulations! Moving can be such a pain! Your baby is certainly growing. I have two sons and I can’t believe how old they are. I would love to be entered in your “Tiny Prints” giveaway
drawing. I am a subscriber. Take care and many thanks, Cindi

Im glad your move was successful and over on the most part. How sweet of your landlord to bring a care package over, thats something you don’t hear about nowadays

.... 7 victoria lynch August 15, 2008 at 6:27 am

I understaind how much a pain moving can be. I took a new caretaking job and we moved this past weekend. I got the downstairs done but the upstairs is still a different matter. Cant wait to have some popcorn.

We usually send an email. It’s been quite a while since we moved, but we’ll look forward to doing that twice in the next six months — we’re remodeling! At least we won’t have to change our address (we can still get mail here during the remodel).

Wow! I guess that’s what we have to look forward to. We’ll be moving soon, too. I guess it will be a little easier, though. My daughter is 7 and my son will be going to college in January. He’s 18. Good luck in your new house!

PS. My husband and I are high school sweethearts:)

.... 11 Emily N. August 15, 2008 at 6:58 pm

We moved right before the holidays, so we just sent out our Christmas cards/newsletter early and included a note about our move and our new address.

I also just subscribed to your feed.

CONGRATS and glad the move went well, we were just up there last week dealing with all this stupid company closing.  Rodney had an offer for a District Manager position up in the Northern Chicago area but we just can’t move right now and can’t afford to live up out there so he had to turn it down :( .  I hope something comes along soon, we’re hangin in there.

Whew!  So glad you’re all moved it.  Isn’t moving fun?  :)

Since we’re military, we move about every 3 years.  I usually send out a mass email to my family and friends then send out 50 cute cards announcing our move.  I limit it to 50.  Postage costs an arm and a leg most days!

I LOVE the new photos of Boogie in your flickr account.  Gimme dem shewz!

.... 18 Emma August 17, 2008 at 11:15 am

Congrats on your new move! I bought some moving announcements from Target when we moved.

.... 19 Sarah Daniels August 17, 2008 at 11:22 am

Erm, I’m pretty lazy.  I’d probably just do a mass email for most people.  The moving cards are sure pretty, though!

I haven’t had a need but have desired sending out moving announcements.  I will be doing so in a year from now when my husband finishes school.  I love tinyprints and have been obsessing over their announcements since before the birth of my first child!!

.... 21 Charlotte August 18, 2008 at 12:04 pm

What I’d like to do if I ever move again: make my own cute moving announcements to send to everyone I know.

What I did last time I moved: sent out a couple of emails, and that’s pretty much it.

Congrats on your new home!

Wait, we’re supposed to tell people that we moved? Where’s the fun in that? I mean, it was REALLY quiet that time I didn’t tell my mom I had a new cellphone number…. ;)

We sent out an email, and we had gotten new business cards from work in the move, and I just handed them out by the handful when I saw people I hadn’t contacted. Also sending out Christmas cards picks up anyone you may have missed :)

.... 24 Marlena U. September 26, 2008 at 9:34 am

I love photography so I think it is a cute idea to take a picture of your family sitting on the front step of your new house or standing by the house number. Then make those into announcements and send them out to everyone or include them with your holiday cards to save a stamp!! ;)
