Jayden’s 2 Month Dr. Visit

Scrapped by Mommy on June 30, 2008 – 8:16 pm -

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to Mommy Daddy Blog. We wouldn't want you to miss out on our updates or giveaways ;-)! Thanks for visiting!

Today was Jayden’s 2 month visit with the pediatrician. He received some vaccines and will continue them, but with few being administered at a time. Next time we see a pediatrician, we’ll be living in a new area, so we’ll have to find one that will work with us. I’m dreading this. I can’t say that I’m not uneasy about vaccinating, but I would be if we chose not to. I really hope something is done about today’s vaccines soon to make them more natural. It’s too much on the parents who have to make such tough decisions and then on the children who are just totally helpless.

Jayden did so well today. I expected him to scream like I’ve never heard him scream before. There are times where he doesn’t want his diaper changed and he cries. That was the same cry he let out when getting his shots. He was very easy to console. After Daddy gave him a few hugs, I nursed him, and almost instantly the crying stopped. When we got home, I gave him a small dose of baby Tylenol just in case of fever, nursed him some more, and let him play in his bouncer. He’s napping now and I’ve been watching him closely like a hawk.

How could I forget to mention Jayden’s growth? He weighs 12lbs 2oz. I know I said he was 12lbs 6oz, but I read our scale at home wrong (don’t ask). He’s about 23 inches long. He’s in the 50th percentile for length and head circumference (we keep forgetting to get the measurement, they quickly write it down without mentioning it). As for his weight, he’s in the 75th percentile, making him a Happy Panda!

The pediatrician said to keep applying the Eucerin on Jayden’s eczema, but I’m going to try some shea butter instead.

Below is a montage from the visit at the doctor’s office and then after Jayden had bouncer time. The last video in this montage should have been longer. I don’t know what happened. Luckily Daddy was recording using his camera at the same time I was using mine. His is much more exciting, but it will probably take HOURS to upload!

Below is the video that I recorded while typing the previous post. He was having a ball! He loves that bouncer to bits!

Guess Who’s Two Months Old! (Video)

Scrapped by Mommy on June 28, 2008 – 11:25 pm -

So I was all ready to write this post on the 26th, but I couldn’t get a video of him I wanted to include in the post uploaded to One True Media. My Firefox browser kept crashing!

It is now 5:17PM. As I was typing this post at 4:30PM, the video was uploading AGAIN and it had reached 96% completion. Right when I finished typing the line My Firefox browser kept crashing! (see above), the electricity WENT OUT! After that I was TOO THROUGH!

So here I am now typing on my iMac, waiting on the video to upload from my laptop. If the electricity wants to cut off again at least there will be battery back up.

2620286910_0f3e1de0b7 Guess Whos Two Months Old! (Video) mommydaddyblog.com

Our little man made 2 months on June 26th. He’s getting so big! According to our scale he weighs 12lbs 6oz! I can’t stop squeezing his thunder thighs and kissing his little button nose!

Right now he’s sitting in his bouncer batting and kicking at the toys. He’s having a good time watching and hearing them light up and play music. He’s cooing! *grabs camera and records*

Remember the baby acne? I think it’s baby eczema. Our pediatrician told us to rub Eucerin cream on his cheeks twice a day. It has helped, but I’ve been applying it at least 4 times a day because his face feels so dry. And on occasions when he’s hot, his cheeks flare back up, like heat rash. His skin is dry all over just like baby eczema so I’ve just been keeping him nice and shiny with the Eucerin. I even put it in his hair. He had some flakey spots on his head which the Eucerin helped. He hasn’t had any more since. We have an appointment Monday, so we’ll see what we can do to better moisturize his skin. I’m thinking switch to some all natural products such as Dr. Bronner’s. I’ve been wanting to try some of their soap for my hair. We’ve been using Aveeno Baby wash. I didn’t know that Aveeno was distributed by Johnson & Johnson *smacks head*. I chose Aveeno because because I wanted to avoid the Johnson & Johnson drama. Ugh, defeated the purpose…I’m loving the idea of going green more and more each day.

Jayden’s been doing a GREAT job at pooping through his diapers. We need to get a few diaper covers; we have one and then we have a small collection of cloth diapers. I usually use cloth at night or when I want to give him a break from disposables (Nature Babycare). You may start seeing pictures and videos of Jayden wearing socks on his hands because he can’t keep them out of his face. We have scratch mitts, but they don’t stay on like socks. He’s scratched his cheeks a few times and caused them to bleed so we have to keep them on.

Well it looks like I won’t be posting that video I’ve been trying to upload or the one that I just recorded. I am beyond frustrated because I’m trying to be more on top of things but I can’t when things keep crashing or take forever to upload. HOPEFULLY I’ll be able to post the videos some time tomorrow…

EDIT: I managed to get the 1st video uploaded!!!!

Breastfeeding Finds: Cushie Pushie & Lily Padz!

Scrapped by Mommy on June 27, 2008 – 4:10 pm -

I’ve grown to love two products that lend a helping hand to the lactating girls in their time of need.

cushie pushieThe first product I want to present is the Cushie Pushie. The Cushie Pushie is a plush little wedge which allows the breast to be pushed up while allowing your arm to provide additional support to help keep it in place throughout the feeding. The instructions explain how to use it well, however I was a little slow at catching on to them, lol. It’s one of those things that an actual picture could help, but due to the nature of the product, it’s best left illustrated. The Cushie Pushie can be really beneficial to breastfeeding mothers with a little more up there than me, but luckily I have just enough to make it work. When nursing Jayden, I tend to slouch. Yes, I know there are stools to prevent slouching. But in certain situations, like when I’m out and about, a stool wouldn’t be of much use anyway. When I slip the Cushie Pushie underneath the girls, it lifts them up so Jayden is able to latch on instantly. Me slouching down on the Cushie Pushie feels great, it make nursing even more enjoyable :-). The Cushie Pushie comes in many fun fabric colors. There’s even an organic solution for the eco-conscious mom!

lily padzThe next product I want to present are Lily Padz. Lily Padz are non-absorbent nursing pads that keep breast milk off your clothes. I use disposable nursing pads, but under some bras they look crunchy. The last thing I want to do is go out into public with boobs that look like I put tissue in them. So when I pop on the Lily Padz, I have seamless nursing pads. Sometimes I can fill up a whole nursing pad, which eventually leads to leakage. With Lily Padz, the pressure they on my nipples temporarily stops the milk from leaking all together. Lily Padz are also good in situations where you don’t want to wear a bra, but you don’t want nipple imprints on your clothes. It’s a 2 in 1 with Lily Padz!

I’m sure there will be more products that I will grow to love (nursing apparel perhaps) and I will be back with an update!

Huddy Buddy (the company) was created by a mom who spent eight long years “workin’ for the man“. With the arrival of her son Huddy, she decided to call it quits with corporate life. She and her husband quickly noticed that little Huddy was dressed just like every other kidlet on the playground. That is when they decided to create some fun and unique tees for Huddy and his friends to wear. Huddy Buddy offers a new line of casual apparel for all the cool kids in the neighborhood. With the arrival of Huddy’s “buddy” (a baby sister), Huddy Buddy (the company) added girly-tees and comfy pants to the line to ensure that infants and toddlers never get stuck having nothing to wear.

I also love, love, love the Mama’s Boy and I’m just like my dad designs. In Jayden and Daddy’s case, they’re both full of gas, lol! I don’t know who farts more!

Huddy Buddy (the company and kid) want you to feel good about your purchase. A percentage of every sale is donated to the Huddy Buddy Fund (#8100) supporting The Hospital for Sick Children. Until June 30th, part of every Huddy Buddy purchase will support the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation. Use MDB10 for 10% off all orders at Huddy Buddy!

What Does Mommyhood Mean To You?

Scrapped by Daddy on June 24, 2008 – 1:04 am -

Looking back at the “Celebration of Mommyhood” Mother’s Day Giveaway where we asked the question, “What does mommyhood mean to you?”, I enjoyed reading what mommyhood/motherhood/being a mother meant from many different perspectives. The responses were so insightful and intriguing, I can see why you all love mommyhood so much! So I’ve decided that all of your responses shouldn’t be buried in the comments section of a post buried in the archives. Your responses definitely deserve a post of their own! Below, you will find each and every response we received answering the question, “What does mommyhood mean to you?” If you didn’t participate in our Mother’s Day Giveaway, I’d love to hear what mommyhood means to you!

And of course I can’t forget about the dads! The responses we received in the “Celebration of Daddyhood” Father’s Day Giveaway, answering the question, “What does Daddyhood mean to you”?, were just as amazing! So in a few days I’ll be doing a roundup of all the responses we received about Daddyhood as well!

Now without future ado… what does mommyhood mean to you?

Linsey B.: “Being a mommy means alot to me.. It means I finally have 4 worthwhile reasons to “grow up!” They inspire me daily to be a better person, and I have a blast learning along the way.”

Sky: “Mommyhood is unconditional love. I love to see my 8 month olds face when I walk into a room. It just lights up…and makes me feel like a million bucks!”

Bunny: “Motherhood to me means love, sacrifice, happiness and an having an eternal bond with your children.”

Michelle Rosborough: “Motherhood to me is always putting others first but its worth it.”

1StopMom: “Sometimes it is so hard to put into words. It definitely is the hardest job in the world but also the most rewarding. Mommyhood is unconditional love. When I became a mom I learned what really is important. Family. My kids come first and I love experiencing life through their eyes. Everything is so simple and beautiful.”

Kam A: “Mommyhood means everything to me! There is nothing more important in my life than being a mom to my 2 little guys!”

Lesha: “Motherhood teaches you unconditional love, patience, unselfishness, and wisdom.”

Gina: “Mommyhood means to me, my life. Without my children and without being a mom, I don’t know what my life would be like, I wouldn’t give up my mommyhood for anything in the world. It brings me daily joy, ups and downs and happiness that I wouldn’t trade for the world!”

Suzie G: “Mommyhood to me means being totally exhausted from lack of sleep, watching the same movie 500 times everyday, being followed into the bathroom everytime I need to go, and loving every minute of it. I also have a boobie bar snorter and it’s the sweetest thing!”

Ilissa H.: “Mommyhood is a new stage of life that causes a major realization and shift in attitude, sleeping patterns and premommy activities due to the 1st priority of providing and taking 100% care of a new little being.”

Evelyn: “Mommyhood means love, laughter and tears and pouts. All rolled into the cutest little package I have ever seen! (of course, I’m biased!)”

Leslie: “Mommyhood means happiness. I never knew how much a tiny little baby could make me so happy and love so much. When she was first born and I’d sit there holding her, the first time we ever made complete eye contact was the best feeling in the world. Now, I don’t know if it was the hormones or all the love I felt but I cried like a baby!! haha”

Mommie: “Motherhood means putting myself and my needs behind the precious children. Everything I want is on the backburner until they are cared for. It’s pure love.”

Jessica: “Being a mother is my life! Every decision I make, I weigh the effects that;s it will have on my son and then move forward. My decision to work full-time and go to school full-time is all for my big brown eyed lil’ dude. He’s my heart. Being Jay’s mommy is everything to me.”

Huguette E.: “Mommyhood to me means total love”

Barbara Ling: “Mommyhood means knowing you’re NOT your children’s friend…instead, you are far and away much more special and important. You’re there to guide your children even if it means denying them their wants and making them unhappy….you’re there to help them become the best possible person they can be.”

Nicole: “I’m not a mommy (yet), but to me motherhood is nurturing. Unconditional love I got from both parents, but mom was the one who stayed up all night when I was sick.”

Claire: “To me, mommyhood means mostly repetitive work with brief moments of pure joy that make it all worth it.”

Zmama: “Mommyhood means staying sane and energized so we can just have fun!!”

Noreen: “Motherhood means lots hugs, giggles and a few tears and as a mom you enjoy all of it because they are your precious babies.”

Suzanne Bastien: “Being a parent is a constant gig. There is no “time off”, there is no quitting or giving up.

I have learned that time changes us, AND our children.
It’s not a power game.
Learn to adapt, and change plans within seconds.

It means you will experience your greatest heartache and tears of joy.
It means that you do things you SWORE you never would, and don’t feel the need to explain it.
It means that when I go to bed at night and my kids are all tucked in, I feel blessed and hopeful for the future.

Even when my teenager is having issues and I worry about the next day…

It’s all worth it. No matter what pain you are going through!”

Lisa: “Motherhood is teaching your children well and loving them unconditionally. Motherhood is also about sacrifice so that your child grows up with a sense of security, honesty, and good values.”

Modern Mami: “To me, motherhood means caring for a life that depends on you and raising this life to be a productive member of our society. It’s a big responsibility, huh?”

Honey: “Mommyhood means to me that your life is no longer yours. You now live for that small child (in my case 5). You are now not only a mother, but a teacher, and a friend, 24-7. With a new child comes the greatest gift of all-love.”

Travi: “Motherhood is loving your children and always being there for them, and of course, teaching them right from wrong. Motherhood is not a job…it’s a life.”

CallMeABookWorm: “Motherhood to me is eternal joy and guilt - you can’t have one without the other”

Amy: “Mommyhood is the best job there is. Raising my children is the most important thing I will do in my life.”

Arlene Gonzalez: “Mommyhood means sleepless nights, lots of diaper changes, patience, patience & more patience and learning with your child/ren & praying a lot that you don’t break them!”

T.H: “Motherhood is simply a great experience the moment I held my baby after labour… I feel like crying. Then the moment nurse took him I away I scream in pain. No joking.. can feel the stich..”

Lisa C: “Motherhood means going through a night like I did last night with my 18 month old who just didn’t want to go to sleep and not loosing my mind because of it. It’s means being present in every moment when I’m dealing with them, collectively and individually. Giving up my internet time or whatever else that I want to do to do what I have to do with them, sacrifice. And, most importantly demonstrating my respect and appreciation for their Father, the other part of the equation.”

Beth: “I love being a mom because I get to be a teacher, artist, seamstress, nurse, librarian, chef, social worker and so much more!! All my dream jobs rolled into one!!”

Elizabeth M.: “Motherhood is the privilege of being entrusted with a child and doing my very best to raise them to be a positive, happy, healthy and contributing member of society. It’s a blessing to be a mother and I never, ever take it for granted. It means more to me than anything else.”

CanCan: “Mommyhood to me is:
being the one to hold your little one in the early morning darkness when they don’t feel well
being the one who swells with pride when your child is dressed sweetly and people compliment them
actually feeling warm fuzzies when your child says they wish they had “pokey-dots” (acne) on their face, so they could be JUST LIKE YOU.
I will always and forever be a mom to my two boys!”
