NovaSure, An Alternative to Hysterectomy
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to Mommy Daddy Blog. We wouldn't want you to miss out on our updates or giveaways ;-)! Thanks for visiting!
The subject of heavy periods should not be thought of as taboo. According to the National Women’s Health Resource Center, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 3 Baby Boomers experience heavy periods-tallying up to about 10 million women in the U.S. alone!
You may have heavy periods if:
· your period lasts a long time
· you need to change pads or tampons every 1 to 2 hours
· you often have a tampon AND a pad for more protection
· you have to change pads at night
Besides being an inconvenient mess all together, heavy periods have negatively affected women in many ways. Mom Central surveyed over 1,300 “everyday moms” who indicated that they have heavy periods.
Of those surveyed,:
· 75% of women reported that their heavy periods negatively impact their quality of
life by disrupting their family and social life, regular activities, and moods.
· almost 60% said that their periods negatively affect their sexual relationships.
· and what’s worse, more than 50% of women with heavy periods said that they dread
leaving the house on their worst days.
Commonly women turn to having a Hysterectomy done to fix these problems. However, the side effects of hormones and the risks of Hysterectomy leave some women feeling uneasy about the procedure.
There is an alternative procedure to having a Hysterectomy and I would like to share the procedure called NovaSure with those who are interested. The NovaSure procedure controls heavy bleeding by using energy to remove the lining of the uterus. There are no pretreatment drugs required so the procedure can be done in the hospital or doctor’s office in just 4 1/2 minutes on average. Most women who have had the NovaSure procedure done have returned to work and regular activities the following day.
According to NovaSure, many women who have had the procedure done reported a reduction in PMS and painful periods, as well as other benefits such as less anxiety, greater self-confidence, and a boost in energy.
NovaSure’s clinical trial post treatment survey results reveal:
· 45% reduction in women reporting PMS
· 64% reduction in women reporting pain
· 68% reduction in women reporting anxiety
· 71% reduction in women reporting a lack of self-confidence
· nearly 4 fold reduction in women reporting a lack of energy
